Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Winter Falcon, because nothing classes up a ship like the word Winter.
So clearly, all ships with Bucky in them are the classiest.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectIt doesn't help that Whedon does come off as a bit of a pompous diva sometimes, but a lack of social graces and not having marched on from 90's era liberal sensibilities with the rest of society =/= an active desire to see women herded back into the kitchen or Neo-Nazi sympathies.

Agreed. It's just a headcanon with more make-outs.
Then again, people get mad about headcanons too so we're fucked.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI... haven't seen any of this fuckery on tumblr. Am I doing it wrong? Or is it because I only ever look at my Dashboard, which is literally nothing but pictures of Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan (in and out of character as Steve & Bucky), cats, and petty revenge stories?
Hmm. Actually, I think the lack of drama means I'm doing it right.
Also, 'Bacon' is the best shipping name ever
.
Steve has the best ship names...Stucky, Steggy, Stony...it is kind of sad that Stint never became a thing. Or Struce.....
On a general note, I feel like the MCU has been more smooth since The Winter Soldier, as if there are people behind the scenes which put a lot of effort into ensuring that the movies actually do line-up in a logical manner.
And here, take a little bit of great vid cutting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5KB-jcbt98

I think the quality of events connecting never changed. Instead the change in characters and their portrayal did. Each new plot serviced where the character was currently at. It's why Civil war can work because the characters have the requirements to make it work. As the marvel team gets a better handled on their cast then they are e situated perfectly into these new events.

Whendon's hatedom is really quite unique in that the majority of it comes from his fans.
Because Buffy was SO culturally relevant it got elevated to being an academicly legitimate topic. Which means fans of his were now applying university level criticims to his works (either for their careers or because there's such an abundance of relevant resources make it easy to do)
Which means there is A LOT of critism about on Whendon, but I don't think the points are made are illegitimate because of their quantity. It's just important to maintain perspective and remember he is respected and liked. We can discuss critism of his work without it being an attack on him.
One guy who invented the character, mind you. Maria Hill first appeared in New Avengers #4 by Brian Michael Bendis.
Which doesn't change the fact that 1/4 latina isn't really something to get up in arms about. Just nitpicking that Bendis is a bit more closely related to the character's conception than "just one guy".
Anger is an addictive drug. It feels amazing and people can become addicted to the emotion because of how good it feels, but it burns out. When they run out of fuel in the legitimate reasons, people tend to start going out of their way to find or even invent new ones.
This is how controversial topics inevitably drift into insanity. How bizarre Poison Oak Epileptic Trees start getting passed around fandoms. Bob made a video game and there are a bunch of problems with it but after eight months of complaining about them, I'm out of f*cks to give. But I still want to be angry so I need to find some new f*cks. Hey, did you guys notice that this little tidbit of info in the backstory can be interpreted to imply that the hero wiped out all life in the universe? This Happy Ending is disguising a Kill Em All! Bob, you sneaky bastard! ARGLEBARGLEBARGH.
Just like that, the rage is rekindled and the addict can resume coasting on the uplifting high of telling someone else the precise amount of shit s/he thinks that person should swallow.
Age of Ultron has been out long enough now that most of the fires over the immediately apparent, legitimate issues with the movie have died out. As such, it's drifted into the point in a Work's life where most of the unhappy people just sort of drift off and go find something else to watch while a select minority of people start finding weird excuses to keep the fires smoldering.
