Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Given that Namor's never been in a thing I'm hard pressed to believe his rights haven't just reverted back to Marvel.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Unlikely. Konami might make one but Kojima is no longer affiliated with the company and, instead, is setting up Kojima Productions as an independent game development studio.
He could make a spiritual successor like Mighty No. 9 or Yooka-Laylee, but any actual Metal Gear Solid VI that comes out is probably going to be by someone else.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Namor is pretty interesting as "The MARVEL universe's rival" I'm not sure he could work as a protagonist, but he'd be interesting as a supporting character.
But part of me thinks he'd just be less interesting than DCEU's aquaman, at this point.
I mean Namor in general comics committed the first 'alien' invasion the 616 saw in comics, and that holds a lot of weight because Namor has always been there. If he was introduced now into the MCU, he could only be just another space war lord.
I'd like to see him in a supporting role in the Blade film that's baletently in the pipeline.

Just from outside looking in I think a guy who is angry with humanity for destroying what is their home, can fly and has all kind of nifty powers sounds more interesting that a guy who talks with fish...and I say that as someone who really loves Aquaman's rousing song of heroism. But I don't think that the Aquaman we will get in the DCEU will be anything like that.
I trust that the Disney lawyers will eventually manage to entangle Namor from legal limbo. Until then, it might be a good thing that they don't jump into dealing with a character who lives under water. Let other studios trying to figure that one out first.
The way I feel like Namor is the same way I sort of feel about the Fantastic Four: Cool interesting characters that are perfect for filling out the universe and are even better if they were always there but not necessarily my first choices for something front-row-center.
Like, with their own characterizations and adventures and stuff they help fill out a Marvel universe and a Marvel Universe would actually feel emptier without them but I'm not exactly clamoring for them as main characters.
Like, I've always enjoyed moments where I'm reading or watching something and they're like "hmm, this seems advanced, maybe we should ask Reed Richards" or "I wonder if the FF have encountered something like this before" or time where Johnny and Ben are just around and get involved becuase they're just good guys or just happen to be friends with someone.
And Namor is perfect becuase he has this whole kingdom he's running, isn't a nice guy, but as a ruler and directly involved with the aquatic ecosystem feels vitally important to any major situation without needing him to be there all the time. Like of course he's a member of the Illuminati, of course if someone like the Sentry goes nuts he's there, but he's got his own stuff to deal with. But when he's around you can guarantee the reaction is something along the lines of "Oh, it's that guy".
The Blog The ArtNamor mostly exists to ruin things forever.
if you don't have him around to ruin things forever, some people that people actually like might stop doing it instead.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIf they ever did introduce the FF I'd want it to be that they've always been here, just off realm for the events of the contemporary MCU so far.
If you had them spend a lot of time off realm in places with reverse Narnia Time you could even have their origins be in the sixties. (I think Doom works better in a cold war setting anyway.)
I would like to see a good FF film somewhen. Them being explorers is interesting and different.

What about Namor who has the rights to him
Cut off one head 2 more shall take it's place! Hail Hydra
