Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

They did reshoots to finish some action scenes apparently (and because one of the actors had been busy with another project when the main filming was going on, so they wanted to do more with him). And David Ayer said months ago that people would be "surprised" at just how much humor was in the film.
Probably. GOTG was basically a team of lovable misfits coming together to become heroes in spite of their natural instincts. SS, is about a team of flat-out bad/disturbed people coming together, because they're being forced to and saving the world in spite of themselves. So the humor will likely be more dark and twisted, which would fit the premise.
The equivalent with Marvel would probably be the Thunderbolts.
@RBluefish
Ugh yes. If the reason you cast a white actress in a traditionally Asian role is to avoid negative Asian stereotypes then by god stick to it. I would've been OK with a completely non-Asian Ancient One, and a somewhat stereotypical Asian-played Ancient One would've been irksome but acceptable as accuracy to the source material, but they picked the worst route possible and one I didn't think they were dumb enough to actually do. Sigh.
@ Fury news
Interesting. Wonder if the Russos will go back and cover what Age of Ultron should've done in terms of the heroes finding out about Fury's survival after the fact. AFAIK AOS hasn't explained this and all we have to go on is that Cap and Widow informed the other heroes in private.

Or they could have cast an Asian actor and then, you know, just tailored to role to not be a stereotypical "wise old Asian guy." That would have been doable.
It's like the Mandarin, there's a huge gap between "Asian stereotype" and "lets cast a White person in the role because we're too afraid to try anything else." It's not one or the other.
Well, I'm relieved that Marvel isn't going to have to sit on bad reviews for two weeks. Not sure why I was concerned.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI would have been okay with Pedro Pascal as Doctor Strange and Hai Yu (the old master
from The Man of Tai Chi) The Ancient One, a veteran chinese character actor who has tailored the Old Master into an art form. I'd also have picked Ken Watanabe as Wong even though he's Japanese, because Ken Watanabe needs to be in everything and also Richard Sammel as Baron Mordo.
My dream cast would be the late Christopher Lee voicing Dormmamu, but after his tragic passing (I'm still not over it), I'd have Robert Englund (a.k.a Freddy Krueger) voicing him with all the Guttural Growler sadism he could conjure up.

Honestly, even if my mild fears were unfounded, it still was a bit of a risk to let reviews out this soon. BVS was probably eventually hamstrung by reviews, but because the reviews were only a few days old, it didn't hurt it immediately. Imagine if it had two or three weeks to let all of that negativity fester.

I know. But man, that was a nerve-racking several hours.
Civil War opens on the 29th in my country, but I'll be in Japan on vacation then. Rrrrgh.
I mean, if he turned it down, that's not really Marvel's fault.

I'd rather not humor the whole Marvel vs DC thing since we do that enough, but lol
