Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

That, or they're referring to a certain Sharon...
Season 3 of Agent Carter takes place after Civil War, as Zombie Peggy fights crime, crosses over with Agents of SHIELD, and is caught in a love quadrangle between Cap and that cop that looks like Sousa, vs her rival niece.

If the romance in Deadpool was well-written or not is debatable. But in any case, romance is something which rarely works in the MCU. I think mostly because the writers tend to fall back into overdone tropes and for some reason the usually fool-proof casting fails from time to time in terms of chemistry between the intended love interests.
Found a transcript
on Reddit of the Cinemablend review before it disappeared. As usual, beware possible spoilers. Nothing too dramatic, but some stuff about character interactions.

I think it's just the idea that after you finish your relationship with one person you move onto her next relative is kinda Squicky and vaguely pseudo-incestuous. Granted Sharon and Peggy aren't all that closely related at this point, but I was really hoping it was either a coincidence that they shared last names since Carter is pretty common or that they were only distantly related by marriage or adoption to completely avoid any of those implications.
The thing with writing a good romance in general is that, broadly speaking, the two characters have to be compelling in their own right and be their own characters who function independently of one another. Too often the love interest is just really boring and feels like they're there to fulfill a superhero story trope checklist rather than a solid character that had a lot of thought put into them (Rachel from the Nolan Batman movies, MJ from the Raimi Spider-Man films, Jane Foster, etc).
Part of the problem is that writers and filmmakers feel like romance is such a relatable and universal concept that they seem to feel like they don't have to put in the effort and so they rely on stock tropes and situations that have been done over and over again. And well, all of that is just wrong.
The reason Peggy is often considered the best is simply because she makes a strong impression as a likable character. It feels like there was some consideration being given to who she was and that she had goals and a life of her own rather than existing to be someone's squeeze.
Simply put if you're gonna have a romance, make it really important and give some thought to the love interest as her own character.

Can we talk about how they set to fix Strangled by the Red String in Thor by doubling down on it turning it into a full Romantic Plot Tumor?
Like seriously, that's impressively missing why people didn't care for that romance.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.I haven't seen Dark World but my main problem with it was that Jane and all the other Earth characters were utterly uninteresting and taking away from the actual interesting stuff happening in Asgard. Why should I care about the development Thor has with these people if I don't care about them and find them unimpressive characters? That was the main reason Thor's narrative arc was weak.
