Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

What? We finally got the official title to the MCU!Spider-Man movie? Joy! (Thinks it'll be "The Spectacular Spider-Man".)
(Finds out it's Spider-Man: Homecoming)
...That doesn't say Spectacular Spider-Man.
I'll still watch it though since I barely watched any of the other 5 movies and based on the early impressions of Civil War, we're about to get the best Movie Spidey ever very soon.
And we finally have that first trailer to Doctor Strange as well? Finally!
(One Two viewings later...)
Well, I have to say I wasn't expecting Benedict to be using an American accent, though to be fair the character was American to begin with, right? Also wasn't expecting Tilda Swinton to shave her head for this movie.
And yeah, that whole "Ancient One punches Stephen and gets his spirit out" thing really does remind me of what Rukia does to Ichigo in Bleach. Not sure if it's an intentional Shout-Out or a coincidence. (It'd be awesome if it was the former.)
And holy crap, that thing with all the multiple New Yorks, I was thinking "Eat your heart out, Inception!"
So, where do I get my ticket for the hype train?
That trailer was amazing. Swinton's Ancient One is actually going pretty alright with me, Cumberbatch's American accent through me off (I wouldn't have had any problems with a British Strange) but is otherwise fine, and I'm pretty much sold just on the psychedelic visuals alone.
Also, I'm surprised no one else on the net has caught it yet, but see my addition to the trope page's Actor Allusion entry to see what I'm alluding to.
Another glowing review for Civil War
. They praise the ending for not turning into another generic "epic" CGI battle like the last Avengers movie.
I thought it was lifted today? Either way, interview with the Russo brothers...I love everything they say, but especially the part about action scenes:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pi4MLf0jys4
It is lifted today. Empire has announced their review will be up at 8pm UK time, so I'd expect others to follow round that time as well.
Sing the song of sixpence that goes burn the witch, we know where you liveFrom the previous page.
Probably not. Fantastic Mr. Fox got away with replacing every swear word with "cuss", so stuff like "holy swearing cuss!" still stayed under a PG.
Okay...so I'll get the reviews first thing tomorrow...which happens to be my birthday...I guess I'll count that as my first great present...though part of me wishes it were already two weeks later and I would be walking into the theatre myself....
Edit: Okay, according to Collider the Embargo is lifted at 2 pm...

Yeah, literally nobody cares if you use fictitious curse words. Star Wars: Rebels is a kids show and one of the main characters has a Catchphrase that is implied from context to be his planet's equivalent of the word "fuck" or "shit".
If Tessa Thompson turns out to be The Enchantress.
- Loki: It is strange that you do not look like your sister.
- The Enchantress: I don't have a sister.
- Loki: Of fact, actually you have a sister, unfortunately she can't make an appearance, because I sent her to Midgard for a mission.
- The Enchantress: Does that mean she will appear in Agents of Shield, but not in this movie.?
- Loki: Exactly.
From the Empire review.
Now THAT's what I'm looking for.
That's interesting, especially the earlier part about no Loki/Lex Luthor figure.
Because I had been assuming that Crossbones rumored terrorism early on as well as stuff later in the film would be done on Zemo's orders to frame Bucky, sort of like a Darker and Edgier version of the Brubaker story that introduced Janice!Beelte (and which is oddly similar to what Lex Luthor does in BVS).
Also like knowing that Scott has the "biggest" scene, if you know what I mean.

Wow, that's very complementary...but I like the best the part at the end, concerning the use (or non-use) of the villain. That was the one point I was afraid of. That they Would throw in a villain so that the avengers can team up against him in a big stand-off in the end. I thought that the Russo's had a better grasp on story telling than doing that, but it is great to get it confirmed. Also, best MCU movie so far? Wow, that's really a big promise.
Another glowing review
. Some light spoilers so be warned.
Well that's disappointing, but I'm just glad it didn't turn out to be the Romantic Plot Tumor or Strangled by the Red String I was so afraid it would be.
