Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

    Original post
Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Which is honestly why I feel good about these. Sure, most of the reactions are from the geek/enthusiast sites, but the fact that some people have complaints but liked it regardless (like even the IGN guy) reassures me that I'll like it. Pure non-critic FAN reactions are more difficult to trust.

This. Fan reactions are usually difficult to gauge because most of them will say they like it regardless out of brand loyalty (even some of the early fan responses to ASM 2 and DOJ were amazing). That people who are professional critics and not fanboys are saying they liked it makes me very optimistic.

The selfie of Schnepp is hilarious...he is all excited and bouncing and the guy behind him is all grumpy with a "what kind of idiot is that?" look on his face.

I doubt that the movie is perfect, simply because no movie is. I could easily find some issues with The Winter Soldier, too, but as Honest Trailer rightly pointed out, it would be a round of nitpicking. I guess if nothing else, at least the action scenes deliver. That was the one point all critics seemed to agree on. I now really want to see the whole Airport fight....

If it's exciting and they do a good job with the characters, that's all I can really ask for. Everything else is a bonus.

Yup Disney is taking all of them down for some reason. Even the ones that aren't camrips.

Yup there he is.

There was actually a rumor that he's to the right of Black Panther in the Super Bowl spot of both teams staring each other down, which is why they stop just before moving past him.

Cap and Tony already have some pretty famous anime voice actors dubbing them.

Emily VanCamp did a Q&A for the movie with some spoiler stuff. She confirms right off the bat what we already all assumed that Peggy dies early on and Sharon acts as The Mole from within the Accords.
