Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

    Original post
Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

[up]The latter is what I would guess. Not necessarily that they're adapting the Oath in a more direct sense, just material they used as reference for depicting Strange's background and personality.

Probably, and West is here mostly for the surgery scene. The whole bit with Timely coming afterwards as Strange and Wong's relationship is developed. They did sort of gloss over the whole backstory of Strange, Mordo, and the Ancient One rather quickly there.

Take with a grain of salt because Faraci has been wrong on things before, but according to him the lack of movie-TV interconnectivity is not by choice.

Oh please. If there is an order, it most likely is more along the lines of "don't confuse the movie audience by adding something from the shows to a degree that they would need to watch them to understand what happens".

That's a wrap. They'll probably do some reshoots later.

Edit:[down][down]Already posted. It's the store where he posted with The Oath.

If this person is right, the blame goes to Perlmutter according to one of the tweets. Who is this person tweeting, anyways?

Doesn't the blame always go to Perlmutter?

Doctor Strange shot, with a kamen rider photoshopped in.

Jesus, just...just Benedict in that outfit. Even if he just stands there doing nothing in that outfit, it would make me laugh. [lol][lol]

I'm asking again. Does Mordo have a sword on his back or is that something else?

How should we know? There are more things which are shaped like a stick and you might carry on your back, including an actual stick. For all we know it's an Umbrella. After all, you never know how the weather in New York is.

On other news, there is a rumour that the Stand-alone Spider-man movie will be called "Spider-man: Homecoming". I was first wtf, but then I realized how clever that would be if they really want to do basically a teen drama.

I think there was a MJ/Spider-Man arc called that.

Yeah, I'm gonna call bs. Even without the current cold war between Feige and Perlmutter, there's still a million legitimate reasons they haven't brought the TV characters into the movies, many of which have to do with Continuity Lock-Out.

Hot Toys Ant-Man who for some reason looks like Ben Affleck.

For added context Faraci is the guy who claimed Marvel was done with origin movies, I believe. While he's more trustworthy than Rich "heard it from a guy in a bar" Johnston he's also pretty vocal in his fanboying of Feige and the Marvel films.

There'll probably be magical explosions or something behind him in the movie but yeah, thus far things look silly.
