Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I guess he wasn't too invested in the character then.
Definitely not caught up in the Crossfire
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI didn't think Benedict was going to be able to pull the look off but he does somehow.
Still....something about him not having black hair bothers me. Oh well. Dark brown is close enough.

And I'm still mystified that he didn't consider Janet Van Dyne interesting enough to put in the film.
I mean, I think his previous body of work provides a fairly straightforward explanation for why he wouldn't find the Wasp interesting, but we've had that conversation already.

Both he and Simon Pegg have admitted that they don't do a particularly good job of writing women, and that it's something they've both been trying to work on recently.
If you look at the protagonists in most of Wright's movies, they generally share the same basic traits, with the possible exception of Hot Fuzz.
I would love to see where Wright both actively concedes his track record with female characters is a bit shit and says he wants to get better.
Star Trek Beyond is adding more female characters than either Abrams film combined, so I'm pretty convinced Pegg knows where his issues are.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

A lot of those things are the best parts of the movie too. I'm sure Wright's would have been a competently made movie but nothing has convinced me that it would be better than what we got.
