Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I think the last straw for me was when they complained that "Bucky got his own wing in the Smithsonian", despite the fact that we see clearly at the beginning of the movie that this is a Captain America Exhibit which happens to have a very small section to Captain America's best friend and only Howling Commander who died in the line of duty. I have since then not watched another one of those...I was annoyed by their sexist running joke either way.
What does that even mean
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThat's not what plot means.
THATS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO WHAT PLOT MEANS.
Also: Mario Kart is an organized race, not a chase. There are trophies handed out. And a turtle on a cloud with a fishing pole.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersI just rewatched the Age of Ultron one. The part in which (reference to Bv S) Superman talks about Batman's parents bleeding is now unintentional hilarious.
Civil War is the only "big team up movie" I'm interested in as far as Marvel's slate is concerned. I have more of a preference for smaller character-driven stuff so the business with the gems and Thanos doesn't really do much to get me excited. If the Russos are behind any more films in the future however, I will probably still watch those.
Otherwise, as I've said like twice before now, I'm more excited for the Defenders teamup since the characters there have an opportunity to be way more fleshed out and the darker themes and atmosphere makes it more interesting.
That is true, though I and some other tropers discussed this on the Winter Soldier headscratchers page one time and concluded: 1. Bucky threw it back so that the impact would slow Cap down, & 2. Bucky probably doesn't know yet that the shield is one of a kind. For all he knows, this is a time period where everyone fights with giant frisbees.
There was some speculation about who was going to die, and I had a thought. Rather than going with the obvious (Rhodey), or sticking with the comic (Steve), I have a different take: Bucky dies. For real this time.
Here's my scenario: They've had a big battle with no clear winners, but a lot for hurt people. This leads in to the part of the comic where Steve is surrendering because his actions are doing more harm than good. The rest of Team Cap is with him. Everyone is unarmed, because they're surrendering. Bucky and Clint, being who they are, spot the sniper a bare second before the shot is fired. Clint shouts a warning, but Bucky, being right next to Steve does the only thing he can do: he steps in and takes the bullet for him. It is instantly fatal. Chaos and shock ensue.
This could even lead in to something like a hint of Sam taking over as Captain America for a while. Steve takes off because he's finally had enough of unquestionably sacrificing everything for a world that clearly doesn't want or need him nearly as much as he was led to believe it did, maybe after one last talk/confrontation with Stark, who is almost as devastated as Steve, because contrary to popular thought, he never wanted anyone dead. Cut to Sam some time later. He's gearing up to fight, because Bad Things are still happening, and people like him still have to stop them. On his way out he stops and looks at something: the shield Steve put in his hands for safe keeping. Looks back at a monitor showing the situation he's about to fly into, which makes a point of showing there are lots of projectiles flying around. Looks back at the shield. Smiles a little to himself, nods, and picks it up, putting it on his arm and taking it with him.
Or maybe I'm full of shit; I guess we'll have to wait and see. It's just, everyone's expecting dead!Steve, and a lot of people are hoping it leads to Cap!Bucky. But the death of Steve seems too obvious to me, and it looks to me like they're (the movie folks) playing up Bucky's instability. I think it would take years of recovery before he was fit to be Cap, assuming he ever was. And I seem to recall someone in this very thread saying that the whole point of the Cap!Bucky arc was to show that Bucky's skill set and mentality were absolutely not suited for Captain America, which is why he was more than happy to give the shield back when Steve came back form the dead (well, I'm sure he was also thrilled because Steve came back form the dead!).
And, remember we're leading in to Infinity War (which I know nothing about). That seems like an 'all hands on deck' situation. I can see going into a fight like that without Bucky. but without Steve?
TBH I would not be surprised if the Shocking Swerve is Bucky dying. I just can't see them getting rid of Steve going into Infinity War, and there's no confirmation there's gonna be a 4th Cap movie right now.
I doubt it. Sebastian Stan was signed onto a nine-film contract and we haven't had a single prequel film in the MCU yet, which suggests they have a long-term plan for his character. Also a lot of interviews on what his character will be like in the movie seems to indicate it'll be the start of a major character arc for him.
Or even more egregiously, Thomas Kreschmann, who portrayed the In Name Only version of Von Strucker in Age of Ultron also had a multi movie contract.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."

Don't know. I refuse to watch it, considering Age of Ultron is my favorite movie ever.
