Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I count Thor 1 and 2 along with IM 2, 3 and IH as the most forgettable MCU movies. Aside from some jokes, Hopkins going ham as Odin and Loki I can't really tell you anything about scenes in them or the way the movies were built. I would probably fall asleep if I tried to rewatch them once more.
Also, I think people dosent like earth chararter because it feel like the standar Marvel side chararter: just go there flying around the main chararter saying funny quirky and Snarky thing but having not sustance, In my case I dont like Thor 1 because his arc isn that compelling, is too much centric on him and the theme of ruleship seen absence, is pretty much "Jerkjock have to learn to not be such a dick while gaining a hot chick from Earth" comparing that to Loki and is identity crisis and what it come to it, Thor arc feel like weaker version of tony.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"They're not the exact same thing, but yes the similarities of "manchild learns responsibility and becomes a better person" were noticeable enough. Hemsworth tries and he's not a bad actor by any means but I just don't think he has the charisma power that RDJ has where he can carry a lot of the movie on his shoulders alone. As we've gone over Thor's arc feels unengaging because the movie grinds to a halt with his scenes down there, the characters themselves are incredibly boring and it's mostly just a bland mandatory superhero romance rather than anything actually interesting. If the characters on Earth were actually good and Thor building relationships with them engaging the movie would actually work.

I have three problems with tying Thor 2 back to earth. As I explained, it creates an unnecessary problem. The whole "where are the other avengers" thing wouldn't even be an issue if the final battle happens anywhere else. It is also a missed opportunity for us to get to know Thor's world through Jane's eyes (which would certainly be a better use of her character than shoehorning her in by her literally stumbling over the Aether). The third issue I didn't mention is that the earth scenes are dissonant, interrupt the pacing of the movie and add an entirely unnecessary storyline. (Plus, if you see my article about the biggest mistakes of phase 1, well, I listed Doctor Selvig there...not because I don't like the character, but because I feel that his character is sidelining Jane, which is a large reason why the romance doesn't really work).
Honestly, I am kind of impressed with him considering how badly written Thor is it is a miracle that there is charisma at all.

And those diference are significant, with Tony you see their arrognce and "I play solo" come to bite him plenty of times(well except Iron man 2 but that is a BAD movie) Thor dosent look arrogant and neither threat other badly, he just....really like to punch, and that flaw disapear in the moment he reach Earth, so it looks like jerkjock who learn something after having vacations.
Because Thor have a upbeat personality and Chris manage to shine well.

Most of the footage is from the very first trailer...the only "new" stuff is the brief scene with Hawkeye and Black Widow in the end, though that was already in the international trailer. Nothing new, overall, aside perhaps from the brief moment of Tony sitting at the table.

Pretty much every character looks messed up in the Civil War promo art. She got slimmed down unnecessarily in the Winter Soldier promo art, but Falcon
looked even more messed up. Tiny legs compared to huge torso at a back-breaking angle.

There's also the first Avengers poster
◊ where Steve is a giant, and the second
◊ where there are more giants and they're standing on some weird slanted mountain.
They did eventually do a full poster, though it looks good for the most part
◊.
Jury's not quite out yet on that one. Bv S was underwhelming and messy, but Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman and the other films that Snyder isn't in charge of and just producing could be good still.
Let's hope DC REALLY steps up their game from this point on.

Not leaving your franchise in the hands of Zack "thinks he can shittalk Ant-Man when he made Sucker Punch" Snyder probably also helps. Anyway, of the two big hero vs hero films Marvel definitely won this year, but the DCCU's other films might be good. And I should hope so, lest Marvel Studios get too complacent.

My main problems with the Earth in Thor 1 are basically because of what Known Unknown has described. I never really had a problem with the idea of Thor going to Earth because there's a lot of potential there for good storytelling.
I should probably watch Dark World sometime just to see if and how they've improved the Earth scenes.
