Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

No, that's too predictable. The only way it could ever be funny is if Civil War ends up with the exact same problems as BvS and cause speculations of an approaching superhero movie market crash to rise. Of course, we shouldn't that happen to begin with.

As I said before, I don't want to be in the place a lot of "I don't care what you say, those trailers are awesome and the movie will be awesome" fans are now. Granted, there is no reason to worry too much. Bv S was made by the same team which made Man of Steel, Civil war is made by the same team which made The Winter Soldier. This alone should prelude an outright bomb. There is also the fact that, despite what some people claim, the trailers for Bv S looked bad. Aside from the scene with Bruce Wayne staring at the destruction of his building, they were full of overblown imaginary, had a villain who didn't convince in the scene he showed up and then there was the controversial second trailer which was badly cut in itself. So far, the marketing campaign for Civil war has been flawless, and what I have seen of the movie - the emotional aspects of it, the believable conflict, peppered with some fan service but not so much that I fear that the whole movie will be fan-service (which was one of my worries concerning Age of Ultron) - this all looks like a movie I want to see.
It should be okay. But I hope it will be more than that. I expect another Winter Soldier, and I might get disappointed in this regard.
The Captain Britain thing explained
. It was part of a pitch reel someone was making for Marvel and they hired a professional poster artist to do work for it.
I'm sure there's other examples, but my guess would be that Bucky's name is a similar deal to that of Hawkeye- the one from Mash, not the MCU one.
His full name is Benjamin Franklin Pierce. Benjamin is also his father's name and it seems like the middle name was given so as to name him after someone famous (two famous people actually).
And similalry, in Bucky's case, I could see Buchanan being a family name and his parents naming him James so as to name him after the President (despite him being one of the worst Presidents).

Garry Shandling, who played Senator Stern in Iron Man 2 and The Winter Soldier, is dead at 66.
We need video of it when it happens.
Apparently he reiterated that's what he wanted just two months ago
. Did he know something was going to happen, because he laid the irony very thick in his last appearance...
Yeah, he's pretty much "OH NOT THIS TIME YOU DON'T YOU JIVE MOTHERFUCKER"
"All you Fascists bound to lose."

It would be pretty funny (and maybe even, dare I say it, cathartic) if Civil War ends up succeeding in the areas where BVS failed.
