Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Would be way more hype for a Captain Britain series if Faiza showed up.

[up][up] While I usually love to be right, I don't feel that this is a reason for celebration. *sigh*.

Neither do I. I love both DC and Marvel but I think I like... DC's heros a tiny bit more. DC's current choices annoy me though.

oooch....the Collider review is out and Campea corrected his initial ratings downwards.....

Hopefully I don't have to experience something like this regarding Civil War.

I have a lot more confidence in Civil War because it's from people with a proven track record.

Oh man, Civil War has nothing to worry about. I'm actually wondering what things would be like if Dawn of Justice still had the same release date as Civil War.

[up][up] Same here. With Bv S I took a glance at the people involved and immediately had a terrible feeling in the gut. With Civil war, I don't doubt anyone of those people. But should it do a nosedive after all, I will be heartbroken, and not at all prepared...especially since I intend to be one of the first to watch it. The movie hits the theatres over here one week before the US. Which in itself is a good sign, since Marvel changed the release date after the test screenings.

In that case, please don't spoil it for me. I'm in the US and I want to watch it as soon as I can, unspoiled.

[up] Don't worry. My plan is to even put my rating under spoiler tags, and then give a general view on it under a different set of spoiler tags. I wont post any true spoilers here until it is out in the US because I am well aware that some people have the spoiler tags deactivated.

Would the World War II veterans Rogers invited to that part early in the film, one of whom is portrayed by Stan Lee, be some of the PO Ws Rogers rescued back in the First Avenger?

It's possible. I'm sure he's met a few veterans that knew him.

There was a funny moment in Brubaker's run where he meets someone whose father (grandfather?) claims that Cap saved his life during a battle in World War 2, and Steve doesn't have a heart to tell her he was never even at the fight in question.

I really wish you'd stop using that strawman. It's probably the third or fourth time you've done that in this thread, and even if it's not your intention it reads like you're being deliberately obtuse for the sake of starting an argument.
Mostly I'm just paranoid, frankly. But folks I trust have provided perfectly good reasons not to like female Captain Britain, so it's not something I'm gonna follow up on.

Likewise with the several times you've made snide comments towards people who were actually agreeing with you.
For the record, I can only keep track of so many folks, if I do this it's mostly because I'm legitimately not realizing folks are agreeing with me. It's wrong of me to assume bad faith like that and I apologize. I'll try to put a lid on it in the future.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

It was actually Bucky who was told that, shortly after Steve had been killed. An old lady he meets at the Smithsonian tells him Cap saved her father and he doesn't tell that probably wasn't true. It wasn't treated as funny; it was more of a somber moment of Bucky seeing how much Steve affected everyone.

Brubaker was the guy behind Cap's return in the comics after he died in CW and Bucky took up the shield, right?

He did a lot of things: Bucky's return as Winter Soldier, Steve's death, Bucky becoming Captain America, Sin becoming the new Red Skull, Steve's return...

Wasn't Red Skull using a mecha sized version of Zola's robot body at one point during that period after Bucky killed him?

comicwriter Since: Sep, 2011

No. He was inside Aleksander Lukin (and then would just wear a Red Skull mask whenever he was in charge) until right around the time Steve came back. Lukin died so Red Skull had to be put inside the Zola body.

I have the issues; here's what happened. Red Skull entered Lukin's body after the Winter Soldier debuted by killing him, then Lukin was killed by Sharon around the time Bucky became Captain America, causing the Skull to have to survive inside one of Zola's robot bodies.

There's a Brubaker's Bakery in Avengers Assemble. Cap was going to visit it but then robot duplicates happened.

How did Red Skull get his original body back he uses for the recently concluded "I have Xavier's brain Har Hee Hah Har" plot?

And what actually happened to Sin? I remember lots of hype for her, but when I recently returned to comics she was no where to be seen.

Clone. For all intents and purposes, "classic" Red Skull is dead, and the new one was a clone he'd asked Zola to make back in the 1940's.
