Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

I was sold at:

He's also a member of the Captain Britain Corps, a multidimensional coalition of the Captain Britains from every universe who work together to defend the Multiverse.

Again, this kind of crazyness is why I love comics in the first place^^

Going back to the love story post, I'm totally down with the brothers interpretation, but Stan sees fatherliness in Bucky relationship with Steve? Whaaaaat.

Probably stems from their relationship pre-super soldier serum.

They had an age difference of one year at most, and some almost certainly wrong background material lists Bucky as six years younger than Steve.

It's possible to have a sort of paternal relationship with someone who is not that much younger.

[up][up] It's less than a year, and Bucky is the older one. It's different in the comics, though.

Spider-Man Captain Britain in charge of the multiversal Spider-Man corp. Awesome.

In the last issue, he tried to sacrifice himself to seal away a multiversal army of Electros. He probably escaped into The Web with Mayday, but the others have no way of finding them.

All I know about Captain Britain is that Jaspers is an insane(ly great) villain.

Watched up to episode 7 of Daredevil tonight.

I really wanna know why the hell the Hand are digging a gigantic hole, but I guess that'll have to wait until next session. tongue

Hey, does it make me a Complete Monster that, at the very, very beginning of Guardians Of The Galaxy, my first thought wasn't 'that kid's mom is dying of cancer, that's so sad!' but instead went along the lines of 'oh, you've got to be kidding me! He loses a parent too?! He barely even counts as a superhero!'

[up][up] That's because the Hand are actually working to cover up the existence of dorfs. They didn't dig that hole themselves, they just put a building on top of it.

Or maybe they're just trying to test that old legend that it's possible to dig a hole to China. Woe betide them when they emerge in the southeast Indian Ocean and drown.

Well, the last two are Soul and Time.

One's likely to show up in Strange (I like the theory that the Eye of Agomotto IS the Soul Gem), but the other's unknown. Possibly in Ragnarok, since Thor's the one investigating their appearances.

The character had potential but she was introduced in the Chuck Austen run.

And basically everything around her was terrible.

When Bendis blew up the book, he quickly ushered her out and it is kind of a shame because Austen aside, she had some interesting plot threads set up and I fully expected her to get into a fist fight with Captain America within three issues.

[up][up]No, she just had the misfortune of being introduced by one of the most hated comic book writers of all time in one of his most reviled runs, and nobody ever successfully revived or rehabilitated her. She basically got Put on a Bus after Avengers and New Excalibur ended, and then fucked right off the face of the Earth.

[up][up][up]

Having read the synopsis on Wikipedia, she's got a great costume design but I can definitely see why people wouldn't really like her, or at least the way her character was executed. If anything, as a woman the Rape as Backstory strikes me as offensive.

I really wish you'd stop using that strawman. It's probably the third or fourth time you've done that in this thread, and even if it's not your intention it reads like you're being deliberately obtuse for the sake of starting an argument. Likewise with the several times you've made snide comments towards people who were actually agreeing with you. I understand your frustration, but this is not Reddit or 4Chan (or Tumblr even). You're with people who are perfectly willing to have reasonable discussion here, and they are as deserving of your respect as you are of theirs.

Just watched Agents of Shield...I am still reeling from it. This end...

But the reason why I mention it here: Anyone else noticed that the badge on Bobbi's uniform is the same which is briefly visible in the civil war trailer?

Regarding the whole Civil War vs Dawn of Justice thing, judging by the reviews, Civil War would have to be approximately as bad as the storyline it's based off of to be the lesser of the two.
