Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Though in Avengers it's pretty evident Thor is kind of holding himself back. Actually the case in the first movie as well, more or less.

Loki isn't physically weak for an Asgardian.

He definitely is stronger than the average Mook.

Loki may be a Squishy Wizard compared to Thor, but not compared to an average Asgardian.

The question we should be asking isn't 'why would a cloned Thomas Edison be part bird?', the question is 'why would anyone want to clone Thomas Edison into the modern day?'

To continue the current trend, "To bring back one the most evil minds in American history, Hail Hydra.".

It depends on the tone of the movie and I'd have to assume that a Ms Marvel film would have a zanier tone.

Personally, I'd put MCU Loki's physical strength on par or just under the Warriors Three.

...it's weird, I legit can't remember if the comics ever told us where he came from.

EDIT: They did, but never told us why Knox was trying to clone Edison.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

To clarify the question if the bird is death, there is this throwaway line by Black Widow, wondering why there is a dead bird. So yes, the bird is totally dead.

I'm surprised anyone thinks, of Kamala's rogues, The Inventor would be the one used in her movie.

Like, there's a FAR more obvious trio to use. I imagine, once we've got the origin, the film would then do the storyline started in Crushed.

[up][up][up]Because the Inventor makes a great starter villain and can help set the tone for future films.

Personally, I'd put MCU Loki's physical strength on par or just under the Warriors Three.

Loki is very strong from what we see in the movie. He massacres a group of SHIELD agents and hits a few so hard that it seems to kill them instantly. It's just that Thor and the Hulk are way stronger.

If Loki weren't strong he would have never survived the encounter with the Hulk - as puny as he is, he is still Asgardian.

Lorelei is probably the weakest Asgardian we've seen fighting and she's still able to throw people across the room.
