Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

I hope they just lock him in a room underground to do nothing but train martial arts until they begin filming.

Yeah, he got pretty much no fights in GOT and his character was butchered into being pretty much only "the gay one".

Russo Brothers confirm a post-credits scene in Captain America: Civil War.

RE: Sylvester Stallone as Nova: Um, ain't he a wee bit old to be Richard Rider? Unless they plan to have Sam Alexander soon...

The rumor is that Stallone is playing a most likely alien member of the Nova Empire with a cool looking helmet. Nothing about him says Rider yet.

Breaking news: latest film in long-running franchise that has never failed to provide a Stinger will have a Stinger.

I'm just waiting for Cassie to become Stinger instead of Stature in the future just for that joke.

A Stinger stinger?

I'd cheer.

RE: Sylvester Stallone as Nova: Um, ain't he a wee bit old to be Richard Rider?

That would be far from the biggest liberty that the Guardians movie franchise has taken with the comics, so it wouldn't rule out his casting.

Age of Ultron didn't have one. The Thanos bit was a mid-credits scene.

I'm pretty sure those count as stingers too.

"I think the only way that you could reboot that character is to give a generational gap that would allow another actor to at least have a chance to redefine that character without the enormous spectre of Robert hanging over it. There are so many characters in the Marvel universe that can pick up the ball and run without it through the next phase or two before you need to see Iron Man again, frankly."

Time after time it's like they're reading my mind.

Any movie scene after the credits start counts as a Stinger. This includes old-timey bloopers.

Teen Tony?

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.
