Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

We've known for years that Iron Man 4 isn't happening. If anything, reporters continuing to pester RDJ hoping to weasel a different answer out of him is only going to accelerate his burnout on the character.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.
It's unlikely that he's tired of the movies, since RDJ wanted a bigger role for Tony in Civil War. Perhaps it's simply because there's a "three movies and move on" policy for the MCU (aside from Avengers). Have they stated that this is the last Captain America movie?
I do wonder, however, if perhaps they will do the reverse of what the comics did and kill off Tony instead of Steve.
Way back when Iron Man 3 was out he had a very heavily publicized injury and mentioned it was getting harder to do these movies as he got older.
Doing ensemble movies like this and the Avengers sequels allows him to show up and act (as well as collect his paycheck) without having to carry the majority of the action. In fact he finished up Age of Ultron well before the rest of the cast, I think I recall reading.
Not even necessarily quitting. There's just a dozen ways you could keep Tony Stark around without making Iron Man 4, 5, and 6.
RDJ is getting old. Sorry, but he really is. You can get away with a guy in his early 50th still flying around in the suit, but by the time Infinity War is done, he will be closer to 60th for the next shot. Not only in real live, but also in-universe. Same for Don Cheadle, btw. He is aging a little bit better. I fully expect either of them to die in Infinity war - and the other going into retirement.
Honestly, it is high time that Tony and Pepper have a child. Time for a little bit ahead-planning. Because this way, they could introduce a new, female character who can one day become properly Rescue.
Could we have a Time Skip after Infinity War? It might make something like Young Avengers easier, although it might make sequels to stuff like Black Panther and Captain Marvel more difficult.
Oh God! Natural light!Doing a general "5 years of peace" period might work. T'Challa can always fight people in Wakanda, Carol can always go on a journey in space and the street level heroes don't need world spanning conflicts.
Edit: Wow the poses are way off.

And what about the TV shows? Nope, this idea would just screw the time-line. It's better Marvel sticks with the real-time concept.
Plus, there are really enough stories to tell. As I and others have pointed out multiple times, Phase 4 is nearly full already even without Marvel adding new heroes into the mix - and they could. Even without them getting any rights back, there are still some heroes which might work out for a movie.
Plus, I think this will all the more awesome if we are patient and allow Marvel to build up the new generation step by step.

Tony and Pepper do not seems like the kid-having types.
There will probably be next-gen heroes post-infinity war but I doubt they're going to be direct descendents.
Especially after the Inhumans movie where there's a possibility of a Terrigen Bomb going off and justifying a whole slew of new heroes and villains in the movies.
