Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

[up]Am I correct in assuming you don't like the ASM movies?

No. The first one was a mediocre retread of Raimi's Spider-Man 1, and the second was just bad.

But why would I need to have disliked those films to find that picture funny?

The best part of the mash-up videos is when Spider-man turns one. They reaction sounds like multiple nerdgasm happen at once. You would think that Jesus just entered the room.

Basically my opinion.

I would hope that this Spider-Man trumps both Sony incarnations.

We'd already seen it in concept art months back so it was just a "Ok." moment for me.

Concept art and in motion are two wholly different things. I had the biggest grin when I saw it.

And yet, even though Fury is doing the same for similar reasons, he's presented as a misguided fool he needs his eyes opened.

I'm pretty sure he only used the "I could do this all day" line on the bully. Red Skull's was:

"You don't give up, do you?" "Nope!"

You know, Spider Man sounded really young here. Like 'why aren't you in school?' young. And now that I think of it, Tony must know who he is. And how old he is. But Spidey's still there. The man claiming to be on the side of responsibility, and accountability, and all that good stuff brought a minor into battle against the Winter Soldier. I'm sorry, but those two things do not fit together in my mind. To say nothing of having a newcomer in a fight against seasoned combatants.

Honestly, the more I see of this movie the less I want to watch it. I really wanted more of Bucky, and Steve and Bucky together is amazing, but... Yeah, I might just have to stick to headcannon and fanfic. I don't know. When you guys see it, post all the spoilers grin.

Half of those are for streaming rather than actual television, where DC still seems to be the big one.

Was he specifying stuff that's part of the MCU or not because he may also have been counting the three cartoons.
