Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

I thought it was a joke about how he's the only one there actually wearing tights, but I guess it could double as that.

Zemo: He's the guy who shot the doctor who made the Super Soldier Serum.

Cap: Oh, that guy? Yeah, I didn't kill him, he totally took a cyanide pill.

You forgot:

Zemo: "My mother was inseminated by his frozen semen because Nazis are bonkers and believe Nazism is genetic. Unfortunately, they were right."

Cap: "What."

Yeah unless he's a test tube baby Zemo would have to be the grandson of someone Cap knew in World War 2, unless he's Older Than He Looks I guess.

Zemo is working with Thanos and is planning on keeping the Earth safe by acting as the Quisling.

Possibly. They did say his character is the product of everything that has happened in the MCU so far.

Comics aren't THAT stupid. I made that up, though I could see that happening in the comics.

I mean, I made that theory about Zemo working for Thanos as a joke, I'm not sure it'll ever happen.

Pretty much the entirety of that article is a good analysis.

I didn't like the spider suit when I was watching it on You Tube on my cellphone but now that I got a big screen, I can see that it actually looks kinda good but in a weird way.

I like it.

Yeah, a lower quality completely erases the suit's textures.

Continuing on the Thunderbolts train of thought, what would the team look like? General Ross as government oversight, Zemo as leader, plus Crossbones, the Abomination, and more than one HYDRA Red Shirt in a Yellowjacket suit, maybe. One thing the MCU has not done is introduce a large enough catalogue of surviving villains to really fill out a team.

Also digging the Spiderman suit. Looks like it distilled the 70's era suit, but with the thinner webbing I remember from the animated series.

Yeah, some people are connecting that to Spider-Man's eyes and saying that the entire suit, eyes included, is completely practical. No CGI whatsoever.

It'd be a neat way to show off Peter's scientific prowess that way.

There's also the theory that the suit we see was made by Tony and is the movie's version of the Iron Spider.

I'm gonna guess the suit he's wearing was made by Stark. Kevin Feige made a comment last year about Spider-Man starting off in a homemade costume and I really don't think that suit looked homemade.

Film Critic Hulk posted a bunch about his issues with the Civil War conflict: Thoughts?

Bucky's my favorite MCU character so I'm already biased to care a lot about him, but I guess it's a bit myopic of me to assume everyone else feels the same way. Plus not everybody likes or saw both Cap films or had the benefit of reading the original comics beforehand.
