Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

    Original post
Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

In-story they appear to be mechanical. They make a whirring sound when they contract.

This is probably the suit Stark gives him.

Apparently they don't go with organic web shooters (thanks, Marvel)...he seems to have cartridges on the side of his costume. Which, yes, looks better on the poster...the red is way darker. So hopefully it will look more like this on the big screen.

So....Youtube is the reason why Spidey looks like bad PS 1 quality graphics?

[up]Yup.

I wonder if he still builds his own webs in this version.

Probably.

He's at Marvel Studios now so I think we can expect him to be much more comic-accurate than either of Sony's renditions. This Spider-Man is being created by people who like Marvel comics.

Eh. TBH I was fine with the first two Raimi movies but hopefully he's done well here.

Stills from the trailer.

It's insane how good Black Panther's suit looks. They knocked it out of the park with the costume designs for this one.

Yeah it looks pretty amazing. There was a report earlier about how some people were crying at seeing it represented on the big screen for the first time or something.

I hope his movie's good too.

It's apparently really hot like the earlier Batman suits and hard to move around in.

I've never been much of a BP fan, largely because I've never seen anything I liked him in. But that's limited to his atrocious post-Civil War comics and the Avengers Earths Mightiest Heroes cartoon.

But I'm open to the idea of the character. I'm hoping Civil War and/or the BP film will let me see his good sides.

I predict Spider-Man will steal the show (with this trailer he more or less has already), and then after that it will probably be Black Panther.

He's a character that means a lot to a lot of people who don't usually get to see themselves as the hero in superhero stuff.

Well I have to said....I enjoy more sony spiderman, I even enjoy the organic web shooter, so Im not caught in this whole Marvel hype

But yeah, in this trailer Cap look very forgiven to his psychotic ex best friend while Tony page the dishes, in fact Tony sound very stressfull in the whole deal, as he is tired

And look scarlet witch is there...hexing vision....dear I hate her, I really, really do.

What I like about the design of the costume is how the lines are designed to slim Spider-man down. Which is kind of important for the character. He needs to look as thin as possible in the costume.

I wonder if his reason for being in the plot is because of the stolen vibranium in Age of Ultron?

I've been trying to piece together the Watsonian reason for why he's here when none of the events that resulted in the Sokovia Accords have anything to do with Wakanda, but that just clicked. The Sokovia disaster utilized a lot of vibranium that was original stolen from his country, which means he might actually have a dog in this race after all.

This trailer also implies that Tony actually does give Bucky a chance at first before Bucky's own actions make him conclude that he needs to go after him full force.

[up]

  • T'Challa: (about Ultron) "As far as I'm concerned, that thing's whole body is property of the Wakandan people!"
  • Ross: "I think we'll get along just fine."

He looks to be involved in some sort of UN explosion so my guess is Bucky is implicated in that, which is why Panther is trying to kick hiss ass throughout the trailer.

More likely it's

Spidey: Dude, I'm totes a superhero can I join your team.
Tony: Only if I can make sarcastic comments about your costume.

Spider-Man's costume is interesting. It's not just bright, it's CGI bright, which gives me the impression it's going to be more lined and a little more shaded in the final cut. But then again, it might not be.

As for the costume itself, I like the brightness for the reasons people have given. It shows that he's ultimately a different kind of character from everyone else in the conflict.

I really hope the very next moment is him saying something like "I know I'm just a kid and a the newbie around here, but do we really have to fight?" And try to diffuse the situation rather than just fight.

[up][up] That clip of him in the rubble was very Batman v. Superman. Then again, he is Marvel's Batman. evil grin

Also noticed upon my twentieth rewatch, still no Zemo. I like that they're keeping him under wraps.

[up][up]I dont thing tony would make that diference considering that it almost kill him, I mean cap beat over and over about Ultron and them he have to forgive bucky? hell no.

This have made me side a more with Tony(even when I dislike him after Age of Ultron) but on the other hand Cap have Scalet witch, I cant decide.....
