Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

The only flaws Age of Ultron has is that Thor doesn't say "Ultron. We would have words with thee." and that there isn't more of it.

Probably because Age of Ultron's pacing didn't allow for much breathing room so it feels shorter and more hurried than it really is.

Is it just me or is his costume getting more and more bulky?

Interviews said their not done editing the costume yet, so maybe.

Also "Ultron We Would Have Words With You" not appearing made me so mad. There was a perfect moment for it too.

[up][up][up] The good news is that Frank's got his classic skull shirt! grin

Also, you guys think Fisk will show up at all this season?

We haven't heard any word about him, have we?

Some more interviews.

I really liked this:

The day we’re on set is the first day that the Black Panther costume has been on camera, and you can feel the importance in the air. Not only is it an achievement to see this character finally on the big screen, but it’s flat out one of the coolest costumes Marvel Studios has ever assembled. I’ve talked to a lot of superheroes, quite a few of them in their spandex, and this is my favorite.

“When he came out on set there were some comic book fans who were just tearing up,” Joe Russo says. “It’s a real moment for people to see this character for the first time on screen. People who grew up and championed this character as kids and was a role model for them, their favorite hero. The sense of that as a comic book fan, there was historic nature of getting him on screen for the first time.”

Also they mention they're toning down Vision's powers somewhat, and that a major part of his role in the movie will be discovering his limitations and the "cost" of using his powers.

I especially like all this "in the comics Iron Man is the evil guy. So we throw all the evil stuff out first". Hopefully they'll manage that both are kind of right. Even though I will most likely be Team Cap. I simply trust his morals more.

Maybe his cape will be like Thor's helmet.

Make mine Marvel.

Actually, the cape makes it look even cooler.

The cape was probably something that would have impeded the acrobatics and stunt work. Hopefully he'll wear one in ceremonial scenes.

They could always do what DC was planning to do with Batman's cape in some scenes(before finding out the cape actually worked and still used it for scenes like the Batpod)and use CGI for it in intense scenes.

[up][up] Well, whenever I've seen him don the cape, it's been in what appeared to be a ceremonial context. I presume he wouldn't normally wear it when he has fight and what not. Still, I'd like to see him wear it at some point - it makes him look very regal.

You think that guy gives a fuck? He don't give a fuck. He'll one-punch Thanos. No fucks at all.
