Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

So, I just had an upsetting thought. You all remember the satellite the Insight helicarriers were synced up to, right? Unless something happened that I don't know about because I have not and will not watch Age of Ultron, it's still up there. And presumably that algorithm is still floating around, too. I wonder if that'll play any part in Civil War? If nothing else it would be one more thing causing this huge rift between Tony and Steve; I imagine Tony would want to make use of it in some way, while Steve would want it all completely destroyed.
I'm sure it's not farfetched War Machine or some astronauts could fly up there and take it down. But there's been no onscreen confirmation.
The Russians shot it down with a missile and kickstarted the plot of Gravity.
Tony: "Nah Fury, I'll incorporate it into my weather control satellite network project as a data center. It's not like someone or something might hack all StarkTech in the future and use them to create devastating storms that threaten humanity and use the intel to target specific people."
Fury: "...Hell no!"

This hasn't been confirmed, but I did once suspect that Zola himself may have been in the satellite. Nat's copies the data sent from the Lemurian Star to the satellite, and when trying to hack the flash drive carrying the data, she says it's "protected by some sort of AI; it keeps rewriting itself". What if that AI were a copy of Zola, which makes one wonder how far he has spread his mind...
Full Team Cap character posters
. Team Stark next probably. And then trailer?

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectHuh, it occurs to me that, unless they aren't using Spider Man in marketing at all for whatever reason, we could see Spider Man on the Team Stark posters.
Of course, we don't know what his alignment is.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectToby's team is noticeably smaller. (if we don't include spidey and or include Sharon)
This movie is really short on female characters.
And thematically and super weight wise it should be
- Tony vs Cap
- Rhodey vs Sam
- Black Panther vs Bucky
- Natasha vs Clint
- Vision vs Wanda
- Spider-Man vs ANT-MAN

Tony's team is smaller but has the greater overall firepower that makes Cap's team the clear underdog that needs the greater number.
The only thing that's probably keeping Cap's team from losing immediately is that nobody is trying to kill each other. Iron Man and War Machine alone can easily handle a peak human, a sniper, a dude with a special jetpack, and a peak human with a robot arm in a straight up one-on-one sort if deal. It'd be stealth, environment, and tactics that would give Cap's team any sort of chance in that scenario.
Wanda evens things out on Cap's and Scott is a wildcard.
However Vision pretty much cancels out that advantage by being so danged powerful.
The Blog The ArtThose people who used to get really mad about the lack of masks is gonna hate the Ant-Man one.
Among other things they mention that Hawkeye now has a staff for close quarter fighting, and that he's now using non-lethal arrows this time.

Yeah, Toby's team has a horrendous about of range, strength, residence, utility and air control. And vision is probably the most powerful Avenger at the moment, being functionally unharmable.
On the plus side, Wanda doesn't yet have an established upperlimit on her powers, and I'm not sure anyone is going to be able to hit Falcon once.
I'm really fond of symmetry though so I want it to be six a side. (Or rather seven aside so we can have more female presence with Sharon and maybe Mara Hill)
Looking like we may be getting a trailer later this week. Tomorrow a bunch of sites will be doing Team Iron Man stuff.
Like I said earlier, I suspect Sharon might not officially be Team Cap within the story, and they were just putting her on all those promo images because they couldn't use Scarlet Witch at the time.
- As was debated endlessly a few weeks ago, the movie does open on a big action sequence and the incident that starts the events of the movie happens there.
- Most interestingly, they confirm Zemo is being set up for a larger role in a future film.
- Crossbones is "unhinged" and is the catalyst for what happens in the rest of the movie, in a way.
- Structure wise they're comparing it to The Godfather in that it has a central protagonist but also a shit load of other characters with their own arcs and motivations.
- It's been one year since the events of Age of Ultron and Ant-Man, and they operate on the premise that unless explicitly stated otherwise, their movies happen in real world time.
- They don't keep up with anything happening on Agents of SHIELD.
- The film "isn't concerned with the cosmic side of the MCU".
- The movie has more international locales than any other MCU movie.
- Scarlet Witch and Hawkeye have a close friendship.
- They're having Scarlet Witch do new stuff with her powers that she couldn't in AOU.
- They left Fury out of this one because they felt he didn't add anything to the conflict.
A ton of other stuff as well.

What I'm looking forward to seeing is how are they going to introduce Wakanda and Black Panther into Civil War.
Sure the vague idea that Wakanda is a place where Vibranium comes from was introduced in Age of Ultron, but we haven't actually met anyone from Wakanda.
My best bet is that they are going to show up to the Sokovia Accords either entirely uninvited or had been nominally invited but no one seriously expected them to actually show. Then when the Wakandan delegation shows up, baffling everyone in the process, we can at least get the 30 second version of who they are and what their role in all of this is.
