Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Okay, Loki (move this over from the Netflix threat)....
I have three theories concerning The Avengers. Theory one is that he wanted to loose, in order to escape Thanos. Theory two is that he was playing some sort of Xanathos Gambit, throwing the dice and testing the Avengers. Should they loose, he would have fulfilled his duty and gotten earth, should they win he would automatically end up in their protection. But I actually like theory three the best, which is that he was under the influence from Thanos until "puny Hulk" literally knocked it out of him.

Wait they're trying to make a Venom movie unrelated to Spider-Man?
Wouldn't that be kind of like trying to make a Bizarro movie unrelated to Superman?

Yeah, that's my interpretation too. I'm not fond of the fan-theories where Loki secretly won all along and his defeat was all part of his master plan; those strike me as fans reframing the narrative for character shilling. Whether he was psychologically broken or under the influence of the Mind Gem himself, his behavior in Avengers strongly suggests he wasn't in his right mind.
I'm hestitant to attribute it to the Mind Gem, however, due to the way he defends his actions against Odin in Thor The Dark World. Instead of, "I was being controlled by an Infinity Gem, it wasn't my fault!" Loki instead falls back on a flippant, "I really don't see what the fuss is about. I went down to Midgard to rule the people of Earth as a benevolent God. Just like you."
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Because they want to dissociate it from the MCU, where Spider-Man's currently sitting.
Maybe they're still trying to get their own shared universe franchise up and running. Maybe they were going to do it in the MCU and Marvel said no, that's stupid, it's too early for Venom. Either way, it's not supposed to be an MCU film so they're making it into an entity of its own.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.It would present difficulties but I could see a Flash Thompson Venom separate from Spider-Man (although a lot of the character's "gravitas" comes from his ties to Spidey/Peter). I mean basically, you have this veteran with a dark past who cleaned himself up and then lost his legs in combat. Then a mysterious group comes along and offers him the possibility of walking again and becoming a secret agent.
So like Avatar (the James Cameron one) meets Deadpool.
And if you're talking about Flash's more recent Space Knight stuff, he's like a badass Green Lantern.

I'm excited for this because it means we might get Carnage on the big screen.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.More or less the whole "second generation" of heroes (Miss Marvel, Miles Morales, Amadeus Cho aso), still Cloak and Dagger, She-Hulk and Squirrel Girl - otherwise I need to consult my lexicon. I have marked a few somewhat obscure but potentially interesting ones.
And then there is the whole greek Pantheon and the whole Arthurian based heroes. Though I am not quite sure how Marvel would explain them....
"More aliens"
"Damn, Earth is lousy with them"
Hercules road-trip movie would be great.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI think Loki was at least somewhat influenced by the Mind Stone, what with all that talk of his mind being opened and stuff.
Not brainwashed and totally removed from himself the same way Hawkeye and Selvig were, just like hearing voices in his head telling him to work toward Thanos's goals and remain obedient. Being subtley steered around and believing it to be his own thoughts.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!@Loki's side in Infinity War
He'll probably be filling in for Mephisto, so I'm betting his role is to be the Starscream to Thanos
@New Warriors
I have barely an idea of who those guys are outside of Nova and Speedball. Can you fill me in on some of them?
@Loki's Eye Color
I'm not referring to when he gets beaten by Hulk. I could be wrong, but in The Avengers he seemed to have brighter eyes than in Thor.
@Arthurian Heroes
I still don't know of any examples from the comics.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?

I like that Danny didn't answer when asked whether or not he thought he could beat Bruce Lee.
