Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Disney in general doesn't seem all that interested in video games, and hasn't been for a long time. They license their characters out to major developers occasionally, but besides tie-in adventure games they don't really seem to care about taking advantage of the medium. Besides Disney Infinity, the closest thing we have to a major Disney video game series is Kingdom Hearts.
The only real exception is Star Wars, but Star Wars itself is so entrenched in video gamedom that being hands off about it now would be ridiculous. And even so, the new approach to canon has been making the development of Star Wars a bit more slow and deliberate.

They do? I know they have a Batman game in the works, but I don't recall having heard anything about Marvel.

Oh God! Natural light!RE: Marvel video games:
If Marvel and Disney ever do a Marvel vs. Capcom 4 where the main team-up villains are Ultron and Sigma and the final boss is Maestro, I would be so happy.
Deadpool had a game. And Spiderman always has games. Wasn't there a series of top down X-men games I remember watching my brother play half a decade ago, I guess that series died out.
I'm not sure what kind of game you'd do with the MARVEL universe as a whole, or just the MCU. You'd want to make use of as much of the cast as possible.
Really I want a fantasy football manager game, but in the marvel universe where you run a super team, and try to keep your popularity high, making sure you get to fight A-lister villains and leaving the Avengers to fight Lady Stiltman, all while making sure the dysfunctional members of your team don't go into dork ages.
Like, I like the idea that success is measured by how many comics of your super team are being sold in the "real" world.
That could be a fun premise.
Instead of Godzilla attacks, you get 90s Crossover Villain or something.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersYesssssssss. And if your comic sales are down you could take the easy route and try to inject drama into your team. Make them bicker and hate each other.
Also random characters in the "real" world would get movie adaptations and suddenly become A-listers, sp suddenly you really badly need your team to fight Paste Pot Pete so you can cash in.

There was a cool Avengers game that almost got made around the time of the first movie. If someone would dust off this concept I think it could be pretty cool. Get in a nice variety of additional characters (Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Groot, Doctor Strange, Vision, Scarlet Witch) and it could be awesome.

You might be thinking of X Men Legends. They did make a Marvel Universe version of that, called Marvel Ultimate Alliance, but then Activision's license ran out a little while after the sequel came out and Marvel evidently had no interest in returning to the idea (the same with Marvel Vs Capcom both times the series died, actually).

Y'know, some time ago, I've been brainstorming some ideas on what they could do with a hypothetical MVC 4, such as:
- Bringing back some of the guys who didn't show up in the last one, like Cable, Cammy, Mega Man among others and retool some veterans to make them more unique, like having War Machine essentially being Iron Man with bullets (assuming Iron Man uses energy blasts for his attacks).
- Have newcomers like the aforementioned Ultron and Sigma, and others like X, Asura, The Vision, Agent Venom, Star-Lord, and maybe even Angela?
- Voice-acted story cutscenes.
- And even use the "Disney owns Marvel" thing to its advantage by secretly making it Marvel vs. Capcom featuring Disney All-Stars, even when it's just Marvel vs. Capcom. I don't know what'd they do there, but I've some ideas from obvious choices like Jack Skellington and Baymax to those that could be a lot like what happened when Nintendo announced the Wii Fit Trainer in Smash 4, namely Rumble McSkirmish and Elsa. That way, they'd make the American and the Japanese sides of the Internet explode, because Heaven knows how much America's loving Gravity Falls right now and how Japan's loving it and Frozen.

I get the distinct impression that that doesn't quite natter in the games department. X-characters and others have popped up in Marvel games without issue before despite the fact Fox owned the movie lisences such as Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 and, more obviously, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes (I know I keep bringing it up, I'm sorry) which very obviously exists in a post-Avengers movie world based on certain character and design decisions, but the F4 and X-Men are part of the main plot of the game.
Quick aside, I just caught up with the thread so now I know we have an Iron Fist. I've lost excitement. The one white guy I wanted cast wasn't and the thread's response to the guy we got's acting has not filled me with confidence (no I have not watched Game if Thrones so I don't know him directly)
The Blog The ArtRumor on a new actor joining gotg vol 2's Ravagers
(I wonder if the crew would've been called the Starjammers if Fox didn't own the rights to it).

Marvel vs. Capcom fans will be thrilled.
