Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

As an example, Mjolnir desperately flying around trying to find Thor was the best part of the climax.
The showdown between Thor and Malekith? Meh. Nobody gave two f*cks about Malekith anyway so who would be excited about this?
This bit:
- JANE: Darcy?
- DARCY: Jane!
- ERIK: Ian?!
- IAN: Selvig!
- Mjolnir flies past
- DARCY: Mjew Mjew!
Gold.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I agree with Tobias, Wackd, and Bocaj.
But also, if we don't get some DOOM sound effects in Ragnarok, I'm going to specifically punch an elf.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersHey, listen, I wanted to give a shit about Malekith, but apparently the reshoots that added more Loki scenes also managed to remove every bit of characterization that Malekith had, apparently.
Which is a damn shame, because Christopher Eccleston is a great actor.

Also: The Worthiest Coat Rack. A much more interesting and well-developed character than half of the protagonists and all the villains.
People remember the coat rack and its role in the scene it was in. How many people can recite one line of dialogue from Malekith? Did Kurse even talk at all, because I actually can't remember if he was silent or not?
And on that note, how many people even knew that Kurse had a name?

I think it would be great for the guy to crawl back into Marvel's basement so I can forget about him until Iron Fist starts production.

He was more enjoyable to watch than a lot of the other villains but I would have liked more if they'd pursued the father figure angle further instead of just having him devolve into a generic psycho in the last act.
The scene where he asked Hank why he threw him away was genuinely moving.

Corey Stoll's character in Ant-Man was a one-dimensional piece of shit but there's no denying that he played the character amazingly well. Everything entertaining about the character was in Stoll's upbeat and exuberant portrayal, not the writing.
Poorly written but amazingly well acted, which is a testament to Stoll's ability.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Put me down for that one too! Spader's Ultron is one of the most memorable non-Loki villains in the MCU.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. From what I remember my problem with Finn Jones was less his approach to Loras (who already got mangled badly by the writers; seriously, WTF was up with the whole Olyvar arc) and more that he felt both wooden and overacted at different points.
Anyway I don't think Corey Stoll was that bad in Ant-Man. His character wasn't the greatest, but he made it stand out as best as he could by going full ham.

I mean I don't find Finn Jones's acting that atrocious in GOT. He doesn't stand out in anyway, but he's not bad. I can't think of a scene I just went "JESUS CHRIST I WILL PHYSICALLY HARM THIS MAN IF HE KEEPS ACTING LIKE THIS".
He seems the kind of actor who'll pull out a He Can Really Act anyday now.

I didn't even mind the jokes. It fit with him being an evil version of Tony Stark. It's that a lot of the jokes just really did not land and made him look less threatening.
The omelette joke? Had me rolling. So did "Finance is so weird."
Him not knowing the word for children? That's where he started falling into Home Alone villain territory.

Frigga was my favourite part of Thaw The Dark World.
Also in a genre overspilling with sociopath villains, Ant Man managed to make it's villain's sociopathy genuinely interesting.
Also, can Finn speak Chinese? I figured the two main restraints on casting Danny was finding an actor who could speak both Chinese and American English without accents, and be talented in martial arts.
Spader's Ultron was amazing. The jokeyness was what made him legitimately scary.

If it's the end of the world I don't need some dumbass comic relief character prancing around in the nude.
The story should be strong enough that you don't need lame slapstick gags to keep people from being bored.
Now I'm just hoping we get confirmation Kat Dennings and the intern aren't back.
