Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Thor? They'll somehow manage to kill the only Avenger who isn't in the movie?
the post-credits scene is Thor having a heart attack and going to Hel as a result
THAT could be controversial all right. Killing a main character that wasn't even in the movie expect for The Stinger would do it.
Everyone who isn't in the movie is actually dead, resulting in every single Netflix series ending with their main characters having simultaneous heart attacks.
Thor doesn't start filming until June.
The post-credits scene will probably tease Doctor Strange, if anything.

Make mine Marvel.Last year Jaimie Alexander said Civil War will "have some stuff
" related to Ragnarok but she could have been talking out of her ass.
I imagine they'll follow the pattern of one stinger being for a future movie and the other being something directly related to this one.

I kind of want Steve Rogers to die, and for Captain America to die with him. Forever. I love Chris Evens and the role he's made his own as much as Robert Downey Jr. has made Iron Man his own, but this is the most thematically-fitting time and place for him to die and for it to happen now would carry the most possible impact. I would greatly prefer if the mantle of Captain America dies with him, but if there needs to be a new Cap, use Bucky. He would need a new heroic identity after the movie and Sam already has the title of Falcon.
It's still so insane that someone seriously wrote a story where Nixon was revealed to be a supervillain and then shot himself in the head.
There was a pretty funny part in the Nomad issue where he's trying to decide on a new codename, going through several and failing. He figures he wants something darker, to strike fear in criminals' hearts, then realizes a bat better not fly through the window while he's saying that.
He also trips on his cape the first night with his new costume.
A rundown of the important stuff from the article
:
- It sets the stage for Infinity War and they say that they have a strong through line between Winter Soldier, Civil War, and Infinity War. "We look at this movie as setting the stage for Infinity War, how it starts and what condition everybody is in.”
- No pictures or real info on Spider-Man, but they say he only appears after all the sides are chosen, and that he develops a special relationship with one of the Avengers.
- The mention of that pesky controversial ending again. The Russos promise the shift will be even bigger and more dramatic than when SHIELD was destroyed. They say that if Winter Soldier was a political thriller, then Civil War is a psychological thriller.
- Nothing really major about Pepper other than confirming she's in it.
- The stuff about Martin Freeman playing Ross.
- Despite the trailers and promo art showing Black Panther on Team Iron Man, he isn't on anyone's side, and views keeping the conflict between the Avengers under control as his political duty. That may be why he is shown alongside Falcon an Cap in one of the images.
- On Steve and Bucky: "The Cap-Bucky story is a love story; he can’t let go of his brother. He can reconcile Bucky’s crimes, but other people have no emotional context for Bucky, and they need to point the finger. We have no idea if he’s a hero or a villain. People are going to walk out arguing about that too.”
- The test screenings have all been extremely positive, but the audiences have been split on whether Steve or Tony are the one in the right, which the magazine notes is in sharp contrast to the comics, where the majority of people agree Iron Man was the unambiguous villain.

I imagine they're going to shake up the status quo like they did in Winter Soldier. That was controversial without killing any- errr, many people.
