Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I'm saying Moondragon, because Gunn did say that this movie would be about "fathers" and the relationship between Drax and Moondragon is basically father/daughter.
But her backstory would probably be as drastically changed as Drax's was. She can't be Heather Douglas - in fact, Drax names his daughter as Kamaria (a sly nod to Cammi
, who was adopted by Drax during Annihilation).

So, what do we think Mantis is going to wear? All original outfit as usual or something based on her time as a core member in the GotG
◊/member of Star-Lord's black ops team
◊, the dress she wore when Bendis showed her once
◊ or her all new outfit Bendis has her wear on Knowhere while his gotg in the book wear the movie outfits
◊?
It was a weird story. The wiki says it best:
However, it was only their spirits that left Earth. Their bodies remained on Earth, and would later be buried by the Priests of Pama. After conceiving the child with the Cotati spirit, Mantis' spirit returned to her body in Earth to bear the child. However, Mantis had to create a simulacrum, a body out of vegetation, in order for the embryo to live in a suitable womb. For months, Mantis carried the child, and when the child was born, they isolated themselves in a suburban house in Connecticut, where Mantis would raise the child. Not long after, the Cotati people decided to take the child from Mantis in order for it to develop its plant aspect. Feeling restless and unfulfilled, Mantis left her body, and her spirit went off into space seeking new adventures.

Vietnamese/German but yes
. Of course with the way she was drawn and colored back in the day you'd think she was as american as Captain America.
The main thing that marked her as coming from Vietnam(she lived with a cult her whole childhood)was her martial arts which is pretty much a stereotype these days and having slightly different eyes years later when the art changed a bit.

I really, really like her new outfit.
Its damn stylish.
Also I hope she isn't green in the movie.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI like it(could show off more of her long legs though
) but I just wish they got their own book instead of having to deal with Bendis and his guardians once or twice every 12 issues before disappearing. They'll always be side characters to his until the MCU uses them at which point the character will suddenly get way more focus.
When Guardians of Infinity gets cancelled I hope Abnett gets to do something with them instead of jumping ship all the way to DC for real.
The Moondragon outfit on the other hand is way too old school after her body armor and cloaks during the wars. She needs some of her old stuff back(including her girlfriend).

I'd actually be tempted into reading Bendis' guardians if Mantis (and Cosmo) were in it.
Also resurrect Phyla-Vell and put her and Moondragon on the team.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersBendis is never putting them on the team when he can joke about having a team with "Jews In Space" instead. He's in charge of like a sixth of all Marvel books now so I'm still angry about him being on the book still after pretty much every critic said "You don't fit here. Try someone else so the book will be better".

Also, I don't know if I can see them introducing Phyla-Vell before introducing Mar-Vell, but perhaps.
Because we already have one and a half green people.
Because we don't need another POC covered up in makeup.
And because there's kind of an unfortunate association with yellow peril characters being turned green. See also: the Mandarin sometimes, Prince Xizor, Ming the Merciless.
And also puns about green thumbs

Oh they seem to know
(also wow even after Gunn said Carol isn't in Vol 2 due to a bunch of reasons, the fans keep wanting her to be in it).

Moondragn was a bit of both. If I remember correctly, she actually killed Drax; she burnt his brain out.
Your momma's so dumb she thinks oral sex means talking dirty.
