Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Mar-Vell was never interested in her(he saw her as one of his greatest friends along with his later friend Rick Jones
◊)but Carol is implied to have some feelings for him that she buries. She ends up kissing him once or twice before his death
◊.
Mar-Vell's two loves are Una(who ends up dying due to Yon-Rogg) and Elysius of Titan.

Didn't Ultimate Mar-Vell basically have a henshin watch? Just do that. He's this weird alien power ranger with a transformation watch activated by "pure will" or "inner strength" or something. He and Carol are saving people during an alien attack, he dies, she gets the watch and it does weird stuff to her biology, but she becomes the power ranger.

The reason Ultimate Mar-Vell (who was actually named Geheneris Hala'son Mahr Vehl) had the watch was because he had surgery in order to look human - the Kree were way more fishlike in the Ultimate Universe (well, at the time) and there were no pink-skinned Kree. The watch basically turned him into his blue-skinned version with power armor.
He was basically Captain Marvel for a while.
Uh. Fawcett one.
He would clang his pretty bracelets together and transform to Rick Jones or vice versa.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersLater, the concept was revisited with Chris Powell, aka Darkhawk.
Except instead of switching places with Rick Jones, he switched places with an evil ancient bird robot. Which is so many steps up.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWait, that's what Darkhawk is?
I only know the character from Avengers Arena, the obnoxious Hunger Games ripoff that killed off a bunch of teenage characters for shock value and pissed off the fanbase because everyone knows C- and D-listers don't get brought back.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Yeah, Avengers Arena got Darkhawk like super wrong.
No surprise since Hopeless didn't give a shit and just needed fodder. Not that I'm still immensely, hyperbolically bitter.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers• Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is not focusing on an Infinity Stone.
• Tyler Bates is returning to score, with Gunn stating it may be his best music/song yet.
• Gunn confirms Benicio Del Toro is not returning as The Collector.
• Gunn says Al Pacino is not playing/voicing Ego The Living Planet (fans campaigned Gunn for that; Pacino speculated to be playing The Grandmaster).
• No Supernova for Vol. 2.
• Nova is not in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
• Gunn talked how there is more of Michael Rooker's Yondu and Karen Gillan's Nebula (both are rumored/speculated to join the Guardians team).
• Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will feature more of Kraglin, played by Gunn's brother, Sean Gunn, who also provides motion reference for Rocket Raccoon on set (Gunn stressed his brother was not a sit-in for Rocket, but rather a motion-reference as they record Sean Gunn's movements and facial reactions, etc.).
• Marvel has a lot to do with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2; they are the producers on the movie; Gunn respects their opinions a lot.
• Ronan will not be featured in the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel.
• James Gunn confirms a new female cast member for the Guardians of the Galaxy team and says she was the easiest to cast: "...most awesome and easiest person I've ever had to cast and blew me the fuck away. Really. She is amazing, and I can't wait to share her with the world." (Mantis is rumored to have joined the team played by Pom Klementieff, but it's unclear if that is who Gunn is referring to).
• A fan asked Gunn to say "Adam Warlock," which Gunn did (and that was all he said).
• Gunn said he isn't sure if he will direct Guardians of the Galaxy 3 (takes one movie at a time, has a lot of offers for other stuff, etc.).
• Nope. Beta Ray Bill wasn't in the Collector's collection in the first movie.
• Peter Quill doesn't go to the Negative Zone when the Infinity Stone almost kills him (Marvel doesn't own the Negative Zone, Fox does).
• Gunn also confirms one of the older Guardians of the Galaxy scripts mentioned Negative Zone, but they couldn't use it because Fox owns it.
• Gunn confirms they are not telling Spider-Man's orign story again.
• Gunn is also asked about rivalries between DC and Marvel, in which he also talks about different studios owning different Marvel characters and mentions how Marvel TV and Marvel Studios are different: "There is Marvel TV who is pretty disconnected from Marvel Film, which is owned by Disney, and that's really not connected at all."
• Gunn also said he is looking forward to seeing Deadpool, Batman Vs. Superman and especially Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apcolypse.
what
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. This cracked me up.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.As he should. Nothing annoys me more than a franchise which builds up characters and then discards them for different characters in the sequel. I want to know who Quill's father is and more about Gamora and Nebula.
And I hope that Groot starts out as baby or at least little Groot.
Mmmmm...normally I wait until I can rail a couple of friends together, but I am now thinking of going to Civil War on opening day, no matter what. And springing for the best seat in my favourite theatre....who knows, perhaps there is even a Wednesday night screening.....
Groot being small for most of the movie would be fine with me. Especially if Rocket uses a nutrient bomb on him like in the Groot miniseries later on. That was neat.
On Mahr Vel, Ultimate Mar-Vell: I looked it up. He had a cybernetic suit implanted into him that turned him into a henshin hero. That he was also Kree was almost irrelevant. You could totally justify transferring that to Danvers. Just use words like "liquid metal" or "nanotech" enough and anything works.
I kinda like her origin in the comics, though, getting her powers from a wishing machine - when it explodes, all she is wishing for is to be strong enough to survive, which transfer Mar-Vell's powers to hers.
Although I'd like the movie to start off with the explosion and her getting powers and then flash back to How We Got Here. I think that would be a different way to begin a Marvel movie.
Not going to lie.
having the movie start with carol exploding would be funny.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers

So, basically a movie where Lois Lane is the main character, and then becomes a superhero?
...That was kind of what Carol was like at the start, right?
