Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

This by the way is 616!Carol's superpower origin(she had been in the Captain Marvel stories since the start
◊ but this was where she became a hybrid of human and kree and got her powers)seen while going back in time in one of her first issues after taking the name:
- Yon-Rogg
◊(the first Mar-Vell enemy and also the arc villain of Carol once she becomes Captain Marvel)
- The Mandroid
◊(and remembering a friend she never got
◊ to say goodbye to
◊ and who she keeps thinking she could've saved
◊)
- The fight starts
◊(and showing how Carol can't help wanting to protect)
- The fight goes on
◊(and present!Carol gets the choice of never getting her powers if she wants to be normal)
- A friend wounded
◊
- Courage
◊
- Saving a friend by being willing to give your life for them
◊
- Explosion and powers
◊
- Survive

@What should Mar-Vell do: They could have him crash on Earth after being attacked by whatever threat the movie has in store. In the first act he'd grant Carol his powers and give her some training in how to use them. Then around the midway point he'd die and she'd have to figure things out for herself.
I mean, don't they have to buy their own tickets to Marvel Studios movies anyway?

Crow: There's a plot?If they include Mar-Vell, I don't want him to simply give Carol the power because she happens to be there. I want for her what is the case for most male superheroes but very rare for female ones, that she gets the power as a reflection of what she is and as a result of her actions and choices. Think about it, Natasha and Gamora were turned into what they were, Quake had at least partly some agenda in what happened to her, but her change was mostly the result of the actions of her father, Peggy, the Cavalry and Mockingbird have no superpowers and Jessica got hers by accident. One could make a case for Scarlett Witch choosing hers, but "picking questionable allies out of anger" is not really a heroic origin story. I want for Captain Marvel something along the line of Captain America or Iron Man, a heroine of her own making.
That's why I had the idea of her getting her powers like the Hulk in the comics, i.e. saving Rick Jones from an explosion.
Also, Thanos was created to be Mar-Vell's enemy. It would be remiss to leave Mar-Vell (or Adam Warlock for that matter) out of the MCU.

Make mine Marvel.tony if you move your metal leg a little to your right you can get cap's balls and end this, like, right now
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Nope. As Bocaj pointed out, it has proven effectiveness. Crunching Cap's liberty spheres is how Deadpool saved the world.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. It's come up a few times. Point is, Deadpool has proven that Iron Man could save the world right there by smashing Cap's Infinity Stones.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I really enjoyed reading the first run in Captain Marvel vol 1. I'd love to see a little bit of that story told. You know, where Mar-vell is an alien spy impersonating a scientist and Carol is the head of security trying to find flaws in his disguise. The one where they find a grudging respect for one another.
The one where Yon-rogg is basically holding Mar-vell hostage by keeping his girlfriend on their mission. It's basically mission control is trying to kill. She's the crew medic.
I understand that Carol is going to be the MCU Captain Marvel, but I don't want to see Mar-vell completely shafted.
My optimum story focuses completely on Carol while Mar-vell's story goes on the background in a mysterious manner until the second act where the the explosion happens and she becomes half Kree and takes down Yon-rogg in the third act.
Mar-vell escapes to some unknown location with his love. Possibly the moon Titan around Saturn. This is where we leave him to sire Phyla and Genis and/or die of cancer in later movies.
The first act of the movie involves Carol investigating a Scientist who showed up at the same time as this super alien.

On the Mar-Vell thing, I've brought up before but I've always been in the "we don't need him" camp because as I have always said "What Has He Done For Me Lately?"
I've heard more about Ms. Marvel/Captain Marvel in my life than Mar-Vell which is saying something because is not like she gets that many apperances in adaptations. But she's had enough to leave the impression that she existed which is more Mar-Vell ever did.
My first experience with Carol was in the 90s X-Men cartoon because it turned out Rogue wasn't always strong, invulnerable, and could fly, back in her morally dubious days she put Ms. Marvel in a coma for a long term semi-permanent power up.
Years later I started reading the New Avengers volumes and she showed up eventually as an on/off member, I got to read her blogging about fighting Dr. Klaw and she used her energy converting powers to try to absorb what Xorn was slinging.
Then the awesome EMH cartoon happened. Wow, NOW Mar-Vell shows up. As mostly as a harbinger of the Kree and provide powers and pathos for Carol.
And then I picked up the LEGO Marvel Superheroes game. You know who's unlockable? Carol. You know who never even shows up? Mar-Vell.
You know the only time Mar-Vell came up in my many years of superhero obsessions was because I was researching DC's infinitely more interesting Captain Marvel.
Mar-Vell's only interesting contributions to the Marvel universe's lore both in comics and adaptations have been his spawn either in powers (Carol) or otherwise (Noh-Varr/Protector).
There are so many ways that Carol can get powers these days that Mar-Vell's role in the upcoming movie would be virtually unnecessary and I wouldn't want him accidentally overshadowing Carol in any way. Non-geeks could get so easily confused by the name thing alone, why complicate it?
