Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I think of the MCU Mob War would be a kind of multi-medium event. Kinda like the fall of SHIELD in Winter Soldier. It'd presumably happen in the third spider-man movie and be vastly expanded in the Defenders and other urbane hero stories.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Before checking this thread, I never realized before how much I want to see a Spider-Man movie about a gang war. Mobsters were such a staple of the Stan Lee-era Spider-Man comics (the Enforcers, Silvermane, Hammerhead, even Doc Ock and the Green Goblin), and it'd be nice to see the next movie go back to that version of the wallcrawler after Webb's more Ultimate Marvel-inspired take.
I want to see Spider-Man fighting organized crime too. That's a big focus for the character: Spider-Man literally fights crime. I know it's weird to make that distinction but most superheroes have fighting crime as an afterthought. Iron Man fights international espionage and warlords. Captain America fights terror syndicates. Thor fights eldritch beings from beyond the stars.
But for Spider-Man, many of the wild and colorful characters that make up his rogues gallery came about in the course of fighting crime.
The Sensational cartoon really got that and made actual crime-fighting a central part of the show.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Yeah, that's kind of a point of Spider-Man: he's a street-level superhero who spends more time fighting regular crime than world-wide threats or aliens (though he does get to fight these as well due to being one of the most powerful street-level heroes). This is in part why the way they changed him into a SHIELD agent in USM didn't work.
Problem is, this particular area is already covered by the Netflix series...

I just wish we could get to the point where Spiderman shows up in every movie for a while. It just seems like Spiderman is the go-to crossover guy in the comics. If that could be represented, even just a little bit, in the movies, I would be very happy all around.
Solution: Spiderman, Daredevil, Iron Fist and Luke Cage are on a team. They fight crime. Jessica Jones investigates said crime.

I'm aware. That's my point.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Bad news
, but it looks like Hayley Atwell has been cast in a new show, which several sites are now reporting means Agent Carter isn't likely to return.
To be clear: it's just a pilot, which means the show hasn't been ordered yet. And Agent Carter could still be renewed and Hayley could technically do both, since AC has a short season, but she would have to work it around her schedule.
So it's not a sure thing, but AC hasn't really been doing well (or good or even okay) in the ratings. Season 2 was a miracle, so I'm not sure we'll get a Season 3.
James Gunn reiterates that Thanos isn't in Guardians 2
, and says the Infinity Stones "aren't really a thing" in this one.
Am I the only one who gets the sense that Gunn wants to distance himself from the greater MCU arc as much as possible? Didn't he think anyone from Got G (I mean, Thanos aside, obviously) wouldn't be showing up in Infinity War or did I imagine that?
I think it's entirely reasonable for the Infinity Gems not to show up in Guardians 2. Gunn did a movie revolving around a Gem, now he wants to do a different movie.
In the MCU, the Gems are an Avengers plotline first and foremost. There's only two Gems left; let someone else introduce them.

The MCU Mob War could be a multi-episode event on Defenders with Spider-Man guest-starring.
