Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

@Tuckerscreator: Huh. I was wondering where the people on my dashboard were getting the video of her full interview from. That interview was heartbreaking, by the way. sad

I love the Coke commercial. Suspicious that they chose the two Avengers that are CGI and a suit respectively, rather than have to actually hire Ruffalo and Rudd. tongue

Anyway, if he can drink soda through his mask, doesn't that mean its not hermetically-sealed and he should be dying right now? Not to mention the Coke molecules being too big for his body to process...

Also, isn't Banner still on the run? What's he doing operating a well-furnished lab in a densely populated city? tongue

This clearly takes place in an alternate continuity guys. grin

It is also my fervent wish that the next commercial they do is for Hostess Fruit Pies.

[up][up]The lease is in Stark's name. Officially, it's his summer vacation lab.

Originally Bruce was just gonna switch the first letters of his first and last name as his alias, but then he realized that wouldn't work.

That wouldn't work for 30% of people in comic books.

[up][up]Why the hell do so many comic book names come with Alliteration?

[up]Because Stan Lee thought that it was easier for him to remember names with Alliterations...

Banner was definitely a Fake Shemp but I'm pretty sure that was actually Paul Rudd doing Ant-Man's voice.

[up][up] And even with that, we still got mistakes like Peter Palmer and Bob Banner.

An interesting observation someone made is that the scene with Bucky and Tony kinda looks like Bucky might be aiming at someone next to or behind Tony that's been cropped out of frame.

Maybe Zemo?

@Swanpride: It was Volgograd, 1945.

[up]Thanks....doesn't make any sense though, since the German army wasn't anywhere near Volgograd in 1945. The soldiers were way too busy fleeing in the direction of the German border at that point. Volgograd was in fact important in the battle around Stalingrad, in 1943.

Most likely they were probably HYDRA forces.

Bucky Barnes
To be fair, his name is actually James Buchanan Barnes. Bucky is just a nickname. (And Bruce Banner's full name is Robert Bruce Banner, because of Stan Lee's mistake in calling him "Bob Banner.")

So... I'm re-watching AOU, and it is just me or did Nick tell Tony the worst part was that he (Tony) didn't die??

Conversation:

blahblahblah

Tony- Watching my friends die, you'd think that's as bad as it gets, you know? Nope. Wasn't the worst part.

Nick- Worst part is that you didn't.

...That's harsh, man.

I think it's more like Nick is finishing Tony's sentence and saying what Stark was going to say.
