Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

@comicwriter: What issues with Sony prevent Spidey from being in the teaser?

Per Entertainment Weekly

Not seen: your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, now being played by Tom Holland, who [Spoiler Alert] definitely appears in the film, but may not turn up in any promotional materials as part of the complex license-sharing deal Marvel Studios arranged with Sony Pictures.

That's why he's been absent from all the toys, merchandise, and promotional art for the film. Which has surprisingly, worked out well. Any other case would have had his costume and look Spoiled by the Merchandise.

If I have to guess, they'll throw in a brief glimpse of Spider-Man at the end of the final theatrical trailer just to let people know he's in the movie.

He's not a big part of the movie so there's no sense in making him a big part of the marketing.

Not seeing Spider-Man in promotional material is good for the previously mentioned reasons, but I guess it would be cool to have the new costume be a surprise.

So, favourite moment from the new teaser? I vote for Steve and Bucky standing together in the hallway, with steve holding the shield and Bucky the gun.

Oh my god!

Coke commercial featuring Hulk and Ant-Man!

That was the best commercial so far. I want more commercials of Ant-Man stealing shit from the Avengers.

Ant-Man looks way more like a Kamen Rider now.

That's a cool commercial. I always liked the whole "drink a drop of liquid" thing ant-protagonists do.

Until stated otherwise I'm going to assume that's the true plot of Civil War. That commercial didn't just look cool, it make Coca Cola look cool, which is rare for commericals.

My favorite part of the trailer was the brief glimpse we got of Black Panther, which should put us up to about three seconds of trailer screentime.

You know, some people have been speculating that Rhodey's going to die, but I think that if he was, they wouldn't be show his lifeless form in the trailers so much. I think he'll be alright in the long run.

That Coke commercial was amusing. And that trailer was freaking awesome!

When we're done, there won't be anything left.

So the reason Hulk disappeared at the end of Age of Ultron was because he heard Ant-Man stealing his Coke...

Have you see the moment of Bucky being attached to some sort of machine in the beginning of the Trailer? I really hope Hydra didn't get their hands on him again....

It looks almost like when Bucky was captured by Doctor Faustus during The Death of Captain America and being subjected to mind control.

What makes the commercial funnier is that Scott and Bruce probably won't be meeting each other for a long while.

Interesting that Bucky is flat-out firing on Tony and that Tony seems unphazed by that shot. Either his armor is that good at reacting, or he's expecting it. Possibly because at that point Bucky is still being controlled by HYDRA as an assassin.
