Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Cuurent Squirrelgirl is best Squirrelgirl. She stll "defeats" characters like Galactus, but the event has proper narrative, character interaction and plays with normal conventions of comic writing. You see everything that happens, and thus actually form a connection to the character and her efforts, rather than a single panel of "and she did a thing when you weren't looking".
How do you defeat Ratatoskr, the Norse squirrel god of deception and gossip (which is a real thing (myth real, not real real (probably)))? Fighting wasn't the answer. Liberal application of Thor, Thor and Loki was.
One of my favorite things is still Squirrelgirl's mother talking about how the foctor declared that Doreen, Squirrelgirl, was legally distinct from being a mutant upon her birth, despite the tail and teeth.

Actually that says she isn't confirmed 100% yet(which might just be a "Shit, I shouldn't have said that" reaction). Might still in final talks but she's probably set to join. Probably getting the contract sorted and deciding if she'll be in more than 1 movie before making it official.

Hulk said 'puny god' in Avengers
Maybe he is like Groot and that's the only thing he can say.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers- TONY: Hulk! We came as soon as we heard you were in the hospital!
- THOR: What happened?! What terrible foe has done this to you?!
- TONY: The sports car I bought you was completely destroyed!
- HULK:
Hulk crash.
- CAP: Everyone makes mistakes, Hulk. (turns to camera) And these mistakes can happen to anyone. Remember, kids: seat belts save lives. Don't take the chance. Buckle up for safety.
- HULK: Hulk was also drinking.
- CAP: (facepalm) That's next PSA, Hulk.
- TONY: Wait, that's bad?
- Credits!
Hulk's not going to get a solo movie, so a Planet Hulk movie won't happen. For reasons others have gone over, you can't squish that story in as a side plot in another movie.
But I don't see why couldn't they just find another reason to have Hulk end up in a gladiator like outfit with a sword. Maybe he gets it from an Asgardian armory in preparation for Ragnorok's climax fight.
I think the multitude of alternate personality Hulks are probably not going to make the cut for the MCU on account of being confusing and kind of dumb.
For instance, a lot of people really like Joe Fixit, but the idea that the Hulk sometimes turns into a mafia gangster is really hard to take seriously.
For similar reasons, we are unlikely to see plotlines like Hulk and Banner going to war with each other or Hulk imprisoning Banner inside his mind and taking control on a permanent basis, or individual scenes where Hulk and Banner talk to each other and make plans together. For the most part, the MCU's avoided presenting the Hulk as an individual character with his own set of ideas and goals and intentions like the comics and kept to the more simple concept of Hulk being Banner's rage made flesh.

Off the top of my head: Mr. Fixit, the Professor, and Doc Green.
Oh, and the Maestro, but he's more like Smart Evil Future Bearded Hulk.
