Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

[up][up][up][up] I like the idea of Female Beetle.

Maybe Moonstone, depending on how Captain Marvel goes?

Nope. It's not based on the Infinity War of the comics either - they are just using the name, like Age of Ultron did.

I was confused by people talking like he was totally definitely going to be in the movie.

AFAWK he won't be in IW but Gunn looks to be the one to introduce at least Adam to the MCU in either vol 2 or 3 if it's going to happen. He's dropped way too many hints and changed his answers about who or what the cocoon held too quickly to not have plans for him in some form. Helps that Adam is his favorite Starlin character(IIRC Whedon and some others also like him)and when asked he doesn't just say "No Adam" like he did when asked about the human members of the gotg("No humans but Quill")but instead says "Wait and see".

[up] Adam Warlock, maybe. Magus? No idea.

The reason there was all this talk of Magus is because an alleged casting call leaked for the character, which should have raised red flags for multiple reasons.

The most obvious of course being that Infinity War likely won't be shooting until next year at the absolute earliest.

Adam Warlock may have been the character they wanted David Bowie to play. At least I had read somewhere that James Gunn wanted him in the movie. I could be wrong.

They're gonna show up in Phase 3, according to Feige.

[up][up][up] I heard Bowie would've just been a background cameo.

Phase 3 so most likely Time in Strange and Soul in gotg vol 2.

Ragnarok, Spider-Man and Black Panther are unlikely to have Stones in them.

I think it's more likely Ragnarok has an Infinity Stone than Got G Volume 2, honestly.

Thor's actively trying to look into the Infinity Stone situation, after all, and I doubt Gunn wants to do another "they fight a bad guy over an Infinity Stone" plot scenario.

Thor is unlikely to find one because the movie sounds like it has nothing to do with them based on the rumors thus far(and more than 2 Stones being connected to Asgard would be boring(Cube and Aether+Loki's staff from Thanos if you want to count it, I don't)). Either Thor is fighting to reclaim Asgard, trying to get his hammer/powers back and return to Asgard or something else. The gotg are more likely because Thanos is out there and it's not another Stone on Earth.

Of course Thanos might just take it from someone offscreen and steal the keeper's soul with it(It was the first Gem 616!Thanos took after all).

One of the rumors said Thor and Hulk are trying to find a Macguffin to save Asgard.

I was sure that Magus was confirmed, well in that case Masters of Evil is a good possibility.

Then the Big Bad Ensemble of the two films would be Loki, Thanos and Zemo.

Villains that can be used as members (In order of aparition):

  • Abomination/ Blonksy
  • Justin Hammer
  • Blizzard
  • Crossbones
  • Absorbing Man
  • Ulysses Klaw

Isn't Blizzard dead?

Also they could have Moonstone debut in the Captain Marvel movie and then join the Master.

The female beetle is a character I've wanted to appear in the MCU for a long time. She's one of the only superpower layers who is evil. She's the daughter of Tombstone, and despite having elevated herself out of her father's poverty, she finds his criminal exploits are dependent on her sticking her layer neck out. She also once tried to kill Tony Stark mid job interview because an assassin guild interrupted saying she'd got the job.

I'd gladly have her be an antagonist of the Defenders. Though her super suit might be too flashy to pull off.

Edit: tell me about the black order, I'm unfamiliar with them.

[up][up] He got shot and fell into some water, but they did a blatant Never Found the Body bit with it.

Likewise, Absorbing Man is supposedly dead, but they dropped a pretty big hint that he could possibly return just in case the writers wanted to bring him back someday.

Yeah this black order seems cool.

I guess they're more of Thanos' adoptive children.
