Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

I chatted before Napoleon. Actually, Napoleon chatted before me. He chatted 200 years before me.

Clear? Why a four-year-old child could understand this chat. Run out and find me a four-year-old child. I can't make head or tails out of it.

(Excuse us while we have a strange interlude.)

No, I just had lunch.

(Bow howdy, that line doesn't work unless you realize that "hot" meant a "hot take" on a bet. Lots of puns with the Marx brothers, half of them only understandable if you knew '30s slang.)

Well, I've had a perfectly wonderful evening. But this wasn't it.

So to settle that one debate that was here a week ago about Agent Carter, as of the latest episode Wilkes was never dead, just invisible and intangible.

If anyone wants to see the LEGO!Thunderbolts in the game, check here. They're getting a lot of focus by Marvel now(Songbird's even an Avenger now) and are even getting a book(without Citizen V/Zemo on the team since Bucky is the leader now) again so they'll probably be in the MCU soon(Meteorite/Moonstone will probably first show up as a Captain Marvel movie villain).

Well, looks like Zemo has a good chance to survive Civil War....I have the feeling that Marvel has decided to be less wasteful with their villains.

I will never assume a non-Loki villain will survive a Marvel movie... until Dormammu shows up. He's kinda not killable. Also DOOM, should they ever get and use the F4. Killing DOOM is not only a hilarious misrepresentation of what would happen in a confrontation between our infallible overlord and RICHAAARDS, but also a crime punishable by forced viewing of Fant4stic.

Damon, Thunderbolts as a team has been reinvented so many times. What you've got the Demo team, the Luke Cage Team, the Thunderbolt Ross Team and now the Bucky team. I think I'm missing one.

I'm less excited for thunderbolt than the masters of Evil, but yeah, it would be super fun if we could build a good cast for it.

There have been a number of villains surviving Marvel movies, Loki and Thanos are just the only ones who turned up again for more than a quick kill-off. I am ready to bet that Nebula will be a permanent fixture for now, though.

Don't bet all your money on it. I'd say she'll be killed in gotg vol 2 or IW 1. Nebula's 4 most famous(she isn't famous at all)moments in the comics are:

  1. Getting the gauntlet only to lose it to Warlock a moment later
  2. Getting raised as pretty much a zombie by Thanos while he's hitting on Lady Death
  3. Getting killed by Thanos
  4. Getting defeated by Ronan while working for Gamora

She's already living on borrowed time after betraying Thanos.

My predictions.

  • Zemo: He Survive, and becomes the Big Bad of the phase 4.
  • Martin Freeman: 50/50.
  • Elektra: Survive the second season, only to be murdered at the beginning of the third.
  • Punisher: Survive.
  • Mordo: He Survive, and becomes the Big Bad of the second movie.
  • Mads Mikkelsen: Dead.
  • Villains of Spider-Man: All they survive and eventually form the sinister six.
  • Cate Blanchett: She survive the ragnarok, only to be murdered in the Infinity war.
  • Surtur: Dead.
  • Fenris: Dead
  • Magus: He Survive, and becomes in Adam Warlock.
  • Klaw: dead.
  • Thanos: Dead
  • Subordinates of Thanos: Dead.
  • Each Big Bad of Agents Of Shield: Dead.

I'm sure Thanos will seemingly die in Infinity war 2, it would actually be satisfying considering the massive degree he's plagued the MCU.

[up][up]I'm just wondering who could take his place as "Does nothing for pretty much every movie aside from stingers" in the Phases after.

The only ones I can think of that can create as around as large a threat as Thanos while still keeping to the background as much as possible are people like:

  1. The Many Angled Ones with their champion
  2. Adam Magus and the Universal Church of Truth
  3. The High Evolutionary

Funny enough they are all sort of connected in the comics(HE is pretty much Adam's adoptive dad and Adam worked with the Many Angled Ones to get them to the main universe using his church and greeted their champion when he arrived).

They could just go with something smaller but I'm unsure if that's something the public wants...

I have a feeling Zemo is going to survive. They're suddenly giving the character a push and as mentioned they're doing DLC packs for the Thunderbolts and the Masters of Evil in the Lego Avengers game for some reason.

Then my google-fu is telling me that the Masters of Evil will be appearing in Season 3 of Avengers Assemble (which spends its entire existence suckling at the teat of the movies). I think there are plans for the Masters in the MCU.

Maybe the MCU!Masters that survive will form the MCU!Thunderbolts?

It could all be CW marketing of course, but there's clearly a push from Disney/Marvel here.

@Ragnarok rumors: #ThorFrognarok(scroll down). The director did say his way to "fix" Thor movies after Thor 2 was going to be filling the new film with jokes.

[up]People were taking that far too literally. It's very obvious he was messing around when he said he was just gonna remake Thor 2 but with more jokes.
