Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

OT, but I saw that Captain America special the other day. Enjoyed it, although it did spoil the impact of the episode of Agent Carter since it showed a clip of what turned out to be the episode's opening scene.
I kind of wonder if the details presented make it more or less likely that Steve will be killed off and Sam will replace him. And if killed off it will be temporary.
One thing I thought funny is seeing Reginald Hudlin and Joe Queseda, both of whom seem like nice/normal people- given that they seem to usually be known in the context of ill-liked comic book arcs.
Surprised there wasn't more discussion of Brubaker's writing though or any discussion of how the "Commie Smasher" version of Cap was rectconned as being a Loony Fan.

And Reginald Hudlin...directed House Party.

I was not expecting the LEGO version of the "why didn't the Ultron drones take the Package and Nat instead of only Nat" scene to make more sense than the movie's.
No matter the quality of their writing, it's easy to forget that good writers, bad writers, writers are just people, and their writing is still just words and pictures, not actual crimes.
I did find it pretty amusing that in that special Marvel finally admitted: "Okay, the leader of the Secret Empire was Nixon and not the Chief of Staff like we tried copping out that one time. "

On the music conversation, here's a compilation of every single Marvel property's main theme, or at least a song from the soundtrack that shows off each movie's main themes most strongly.
I gotta admit, since they share a lot of the same cues and such they do kind of run together. Most of them have at least one or two parts that's very unique to them, but a lot of them are very same-y, especially as time went on. But still, I forgot how much I liked some of the soundtracks in the series - like Thor 1.
I didn't know Danny Elfman was involved in the score for Ultron. Or that Christophe Beck was involved with Ant-Man. This might also be the first time I've ever heard the Agents of SHIELD theme.

I never understood why there are so many complains about the soundtracks in the Marvel movies....I actually love all of them. And the only TV show theme I didn't like initially is the one of Jessica Jones, and even that grew on me.
Still like the soundtracks from the Captain America movies the best, though. The first one sounds so patriotic (and really, how can you go wrong with Menken and Silvestri? That is practically impossible).
They're all functional, but few of them leave you with an impression going out of the movie, and of the ones that did, Avengers got there by repeating the main theme to the point of borderline annoying, and Thor The Dark World did so by aping the already-recognizable main theme song.

Although there is some interesting stuff in Marvel's UK, it's unlikely any of it will end up in the movies, although I guess not impossible. Captain Britain's links to Otherworld could potentially be used in a magic movie and someone like Faiza could turn up if they used MI-13 as an organisation that built up in response to SHIELD.

I want a EU/Asia superhero team that has no actual problems working together. Call them something like Excalibur, Squadron Supreme or just MI-13 Special Division and fill it with folks like Captain Britain and people that will never be on the actual movie!Avengers team like Swordsman, Black Knight, Sersi etc. Could just show up as a "Look, even Germany has their own Avengers now!" moment in a movie and then focus a later movie on them defending Earth from Morgan le Fay or something while the Avengers are off in space.

Something like that might work after Infinity War - that seems like a good place to have superheroes becoming not just the norm, but commonplace.
Other way around, iirc. The recognizable current Marvel main theme started with The Dark World. Before that, there was either just the "shuffling pages" sound effect or unique stuff depending on the movie.

and
: Maybe Thor runs into him after he ditched the Quinjet. Or maybe it's like Hulk Vs, and someone kidnapped him in an ill-advised attempt to use him as a weapon against Thor.

And one of the last things Ao U did was say "Oh, we found the jet(somewhere in southeast asia IIRC)but he wasn't in it".

I also think Awesome Mix Volume One is the perfect album. In terms of pacing and energy it is a vastly enjoyable 45 minuets, and each song follows from the last perfectly.
Of course the album is in a different order than the film itself.
