Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The Russos talk about juggling so many heroes in Civil War
.
i just have faith that they will make a good movie at the end of the day.
winter soldier is the best mcu film to date, and the first movie, while not excellent, is on the better end of mcu films still, so i have good reason to suspect this will be at least that.

The first Cap had a different director, but the same writing team (which, imho, should write the whole MCU, they are awesome!). And this time around more or less the whole team is back...same writers, same directors, same composer, when this goes wrong than certainly not because Marvel hired the wrong people.
Well, that movie was scored by Silvestri. The went with Henry Jackman for the sequel, who also did Kick-ass, Kingsmen, Big Hero 6 and Wreck-it-Ralph. I already put him in spot 7 on the list of the most important Disney composers two years ago...nowadays I would put him at least on spot 6.

The only music I can recognize in the MCU is the Avengers leitmotif and parts of the Cap 1 and 2 soundtracks. Everything else is either licensed or eh.
DC are better at coming up with music you remember after exiting the cinema(to the point that I caught a musical spoiler in their preview for the next OST due to recognizing parts of a theme from another movie).

I wonder what tracks Gunn will pick out for gotg vol 2. He said he wanted Bowie(RIP)to play a character in it and wanted to put another(since Moonage Daydream played in 1)song from him in 2.
(The Man Who Sold The World would fit very well with a certain guardian)

Guardians has my second favorite soundtrack of the series (behind The First Avenger), and even the stuff that isn't
I really, really like the way the movie used the preexisting soundtrack as incidental music and as part of the score, rather than just having the songs play over scenes. It's unique and a really cool way to incorporate the music in the movie.
I think only 1 or 2 of the already existing songs actually play over a scene instead of in it(going into Knowhere(which Gunn added a song to in post after having a hard time deciding between 2-3 songs for it or having a original theme) and some other part IIRC).
I can't remember ANY original theme from that movie due to the licensed music just taking over it.

Other than the Superman theme and the one from the first Batman movie (which I mostly remember due to the animated series), I can't say that any of the DC movie soundtracks left a lasting impact on me. It's mostly the theme songs aso from their animated series I tend to remember.
But then, I really like to listen to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HH8zNypt-Y
so I would be able to recognize most of the movie themes easily.

Unless he died in the filming of Spider-Man 3 and what we see is just a revenant...
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!
