Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Well, if any of the Avengers dies in the upcoming movies, I still want it to be war machine. I really don't see much story-telling potential in his character (someone mentioned once that he is more interesting in the comics, but in the movies, he is a bore), but his death would be exactly the push which would cause Civil War to escalate. If Tony's best friend dies because Cap was adamant to protect Bucky, well, is there a better idea to make the whole thing dramatic? And I would actually not put it past marvel that the scene we already saw in the trailer actually is his death scene - but nobody will expect that it is. What better way to keep a secret than putting it directly in front of us?
Either way, I still think that Civil war won't be solved until Infinity war I. Everything else would be a waste.
wow, so i'm sure this is hella old but i had no idea we actually had a snippet of the black panther costume
◊.
it's a shame the film is only coming out in 2018, outside of doctor strange (which i'm currently unsure about) this is probably the marvel film i'm most looking forward to outside of civil war ):

Rhodey being stuffed into a fridge would be a deal breaker for me, you don't throw away an actor of that caliber to make a character (who is already defined by their guilt) feel guilty.
The premise of Civil War has enough emotional stakes in it that you don't need to killing characters; there's already enough drama.
On the list of Avengers I would be okay with dying in phase three, Rhodey is not on it.
The Russos talk about why Spider-Man has been excluded from the marketing
.
I'd say War Machine has a chance of actually dying but that's partly because he's also rumored to die in the Civil War 2 comic event and Marvel likes keeping the movies and comics close.
Cap has an equal chance.
The vision is invincible due to having to face Thanos before his death.

He has the least chance of dying. Why? Because they have him hurt and unconscious in the trailer. If he were the big death of the movie they wouldn't be spoiling that 6 months before the movie is actually out.
This is a repeat of everyone saying Black Widow was gonna die in Age of Ultron because of clues in the trailer.

Not really, because as far as I can tell, everyone seems to have already taken the bait. I saw a bunch of news sites saying "Did the trailer really just spoil the big death of the movie?!" and people talking about how it's bullshit to kill him off.
If someone dies in this movie they aren't gonna be putting their death scene in the trailer.

YUP. You would not believe how many comments I saw (both from haters and fans) talking about it. The trailer showed that out of context flashback where she's tied up and looking scared while medical equipment is in the background and everyone was like "Ultron is gonna torture Widow to death!"

I agree that killing characters off for the sake of drama (Stuffed in the Fridge) rather than because of closure of personal arcs, or because they were set up as a Sacrificial Lamb from the getgo, is a lazy form of writing, regardless of who it happens to.

Well, I'd rather they kill her than one or both of the black guys (I know that sounds terrible).
Or to put it a better way: if they kill Cap, even if temporarily, I'd expect Sam to take on the mantle, and he's a great character. I don't feel too attached to Wanda.
