Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I mean, he is apparently going to be a series regular, so he's probably not dead? But this kinda shock-death cliffhanger bullshit fits nicely into a grand Marvel TV tradition of gratuitously awful things happening to black dudes.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. So with DC/WB just unveiling a whole bunch of impressive looks at their upcoming films, with many of them seeming to take different directions for the superhero genre, do you think Marvel will be outclassed, especially since DC/WB gives more freedom to the directors, rather than it being studio driven?
I'm not sure which of these discussions I want to be in less, so I'm gonna bounce.

That's a bit of a leading question, isn't it?
I'm not particularly interested in DC at the moment, so I couldn't tell you.
Oh God! Natural light! Was one of impressive looks at their upcoming films in color?
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Well, as for Agent Carter, here's a hint about that plot point.
And as for that other thing... well, Marvel will have a riposte pretty soon, I'm sure.
I really have to remember how to bounce.

Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectWackd: I do believe your exaggerating right now, especially since we pretty much know for sure he isn't dead, since 1) Whitney Frost is alive and she was right next to him and 2) he's a series regular. Saying that they "killed another black dude" is just disingenuous. I mean, you might as well say that same thing when they blew up Luke Cage.

By my count that makes him the fifth black guy in a Marvel show to get a fakeout death for shock value, following Deathlok, Tripp, Mac, and Luke.
I mean. Excepting Simmons' eaten-by-monolith cliffhanger at the end of SHIELD season two, I honestly can't remember this trope happening to anyone else.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Tripp got a fakeout death earlier in SHIELD, and is, according to my chart, the only black dude on Marvel TV to get both a real AND fakeout death.
Also, yeah, okay, forgot Mockingbird. Still, though, six of Marvel TV's ten black dude characters—forgot about Andrew—have had fakeout deaths now. Compared to, like, two white women. And two more of those ten have actually died, plus Tripp.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Well, okay, but I do think Wack'd has a point in that there's definite a noticeable trend of it happening with black men.
Oh God! Natural light!I mean, if we are counting any moment where a person almost dies, then you have to add in Simmons when she jumped out of a plane and Skye when she was shot twice and Fitz when he almost drowned. Hell, Fitz fits better with a fakeout death, since the audience was left in the dark if he is okay or not.
Thor 3 rumor about Odin.
Sounds meh but I still don't think Hopkins will return to the role.
Cap 3 rumor about deaths.
If true, wtf Marvel? I can't see them killing one of their few female heroes to motivate a male one. Not even Marvel are that stupid.

The number of Black Characters who almost die just shows how many of them actually are in those shows. It is hard to complain about what is happening to them when it happens to all characters. The first near death was Coulson, when the bridge exploded - and that is overlooking Simmons dive out of the plane. Honestly, I am tired of this. Those are shows about agents. Agents suffer. They die. It happens.
Well given that Ragnarok is coming from the director of What We Do in the Shadows, I wouldn't be surprised if silliness like that actually happened. And it sounds pretty funny to me.
Sing the song of sixpence that goes burn the witch, we know where you live
I'd be down for it. Sounds like it might actually do something unique with the character.
I'll be taking the Scarlet Witch thing with a grain of salt, though. Seems like a waste to me. And didn't they say they had an arc planned or something?

Heck, a big plot point in Season 1 of Agents of SHIELD was why/how Coulson's apparent "death" in the first Avengers movie was a fakeout.
I think they'll establish Wilkes surviving the zero matter explosion within the next episode or two. Honestly I would barely consider it a fakeout since they establish Frost surviving and she was there too.
On another note, they did make it a point to show Carter getting exposed to the zero matter explosion, if much less directly. So I wonder if she might of been affected by it.
There's about as much chance of Wanda dying as there is of me becoming pope. Does anyone think after all the bullshit they've taken for the lack of diversity in their films and the fact that they're just now course correcting, that they're gonna immediately go and kill the only other girl on the Avengers?
That'd be a PR nightmare.
