Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

aldritch killian from iron man 3, not killgrave. haven't seen jessica jones yet.
(i have still yet to watch force awakens, so i reserve my opinion on kylo ren until i have.)
to be completely honest i'm not sure that i would able to articulate exactly why i didn't care for killian unless i watched iron man 3 again. the way he acts is probably just part of it.

I didn't care for him because he was bland, boring, and his whole reason to get back at Tony Stark is because "oh no, you wuz mean to me". Like seriously, it's like the high school nerd getting revenge on a bully by taking over the world and putting that bully's loved ones in a concentration camp. It's pathetic, petty, and over-the-top.
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?Going off what Tobias said about villains needing to really believe in their own righteousness, it might be why the fake Mandarin was initially received well but not Killian was the conviction in their causes. Prior to The Reveal, the Mandarin seemed fueled by fury, someone who hated being caught in the crossfire of America's debacle in the Middle East. Audiences could really believe someone from that could become a terrorist (after all, we've seen it happen.) But Killian's motivation coming off as "my favorite celebrity snubbed me" was much less believable for a terrorist, even though the movie tried to make it more complicated than that.
Also when it boiled down to it, in addition to being bland and boring Killian's scheme was basically just a more complex, biologically-oriented version of Obadiah Stane's. Engineer terror threats to sell weapons. It was a scheme we'd seen already, but without the emotional attachment or the charismatic character to give it the same impact as the first movie.
Obadiah Stane may have been an obvious villain to us, but it wasn't obvious to Tony, and being backstabbed by a guy he grew up around made it at least feel painful from that perspective.

It comes on for me in three hours. And then Agent Carter Season Dos.
Nice Hayley interview
. Kid Tony and powered Peggy someday?

Let's say it like this: When Marvel wants to promote things they usually have sales on the digital comic store on dozen of books with the character/team(DC does the same but usually with way more books and issues). These are the
◊ only books in the current Peggy sale.
◊
Sharon is the really important Carter.

Hayley Atwell sort of made Peggy Carter her thing, so I can see why the films are into her.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI do love what a massive break out character Peggy has become.
As always it's fun to think the seasons of her show could have time skips so we can see things like a toddler Tony Stark, a young Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne, Zola becoming an AI. Heck you could even do an Ultron story if you have Hank work on perfecting the uploading the brain thing for Zola. A Wakanda story with the then current Black Panther. Heck the true Mandarin is meant to be immortal. There's a lot you can do with the MCU in the past century.
Just watched the new Agent Carter.
I am super impressed that Jessica Jones not only had three black characters, but actually managed to keep two of them alive through an entire season.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

my main problem with killian is that i just find him petulant and pathetic. part of that might be due to the actor, who was trying his best but didn't necessarily come out right, idk.
you might argue that him being petulant was the point, but i didn't think it added anything or made him a more interesting character.
