Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

This sort of reminds me of Dark Souls which actually had an archer giant. I thought it was a very creative, unusual idea that actually made a lot of sense, and i wouldn't mind seeing it being used more often.
...not sure if i ACTUALLY want hulkeye though.

The Hulk with ANY sort of scaled weapon would be a nightmare.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.![]()
Then he'd basically be Dagahn from Xenoblade Chronicles X.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! So, this Tues. ABC is showing a Captain America 75th Anniversary special... and it's making me so fucking nervous! I get that Captain America is very lucrative character for them and using an anniversary to draw attention to him, especially leading into a movie, is a perfectly normal thing for them to do. But my poor brain can't help but read it as a farewell; a warning that yep, Cap's gonna die in Civil War. And I'll be honest; I'm already leaning toward not seeing this movie. Steve dying? Would guarantee I don't.
If he does, I hope the Captain America title dies with him. Legacy Character's should only be used with characters created for the sole purpose of being a Legacy Character, and even then, only sparingly.

I disagree, I think that Bucky or Sam could take on the shield and do a good job with it.
Honestly, I'd prefer if Sam did, mostly because I like his current series and his costume.
Oh God! Natural light!Sign me up on the Captain Falcon train.
I'd rather not see Steve die, or give the shield to someone else, but if it had to be someone else, let it be Sam.
I mostly don't want to see it be Bucky for the same reason I'm only slightly concerned about his big role in Civil War: I don't care that much about him as a character, and after Winter Soldier where he spent the entire time being an obstacle rather than a person, I don't think he has what it takes, at least right now, to pick up the Captain America legacy.
No, legacy characters are used to show that the name/character will not be forgotten, that their legacy will live on. And I don't think it should be used sparingly, because it's use has resulted in a lot of interesting and varied characters, including several failed versions of Captain America like William Burnside. It's also resulted in varied takes on the role of superheroes, like the current run of Sam Wilson: Captain America or the new Mighty Thor, which juxtaposes the godly Thor with the cancer-ridden Jane Foster.
I just really want Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson to be the lead of one of the films. If that film is titled Falcon, that'd be great. if that film is titled Captain America: New Beginnings, that'd also be great.

Umm, nooo I wasn't saying that the only way should be to have a character created to HAVE a Legacy Character after them (which, by the way, is how Hal Jordan got his ring), what I was saying is that Legacy Characters should only be characters created to BE Legacy Characters, like Terry Mc Ginnis or Miles Morales. Characters who don't already have a superhero identity because the second a superhero takes over the title of another superhero after they die, you are saying "the superhero who just died is more important than the superhero taking their place was". The Falcon abandoning his superhero identity to take on Captain America says "Captain America is more important than The Falcon". Legacy Characters can work, but they need to be new characters, created solely to be Legacy Characters.

Does it bug anyone else that the central premise of The Phantom is that the guy eventually dies and passes on the title to his kid, but we're this year celebrating the eightieth anniversary of the franchise and we're still on the same Phantom the comic premiered with?

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I take the opposite view that Legacy Characters are more interesting when they're a previous character taking up the mantle, since a completely new wielder coming in can feel like a Replacement Scrappy.
In any case, this short film
really makes me want a Black Widow movie. And I also want Ashly Burch to be in it.

In case you needed to use it as a sheild, of course.

I meant him replacing Abin Sur.

I'll take Replacement Scrappy over Unfortunate Implications any day, especially since Legacy Characters have a terrible habit of being replaced by their predecessor and Replacement Scrappys being replaced themselves tends to be seen as good while old characters being replaced from their new titles carries with it even more, different, Unfortunate Implications.

Hulk could hand-wield a ballista perhaps.
