Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Wasn't AIM already(badly) used in IM 3?
Edit:
Pfft. Of course by this point Steve will probably be dead... She could team up with Bucky?

They'll cope in the healthiest of ways, by dressing like beekeepers
Only then will they feel some dignity with what they do
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThrow in a doomsday weapon or whatever and things get downright Bondy.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersSunspot bought the company a while back in the comics and is now using them for his New Avengers
◊(which is probably the most interesting Marvel team book right now along with Ultimates and A-Force) so it's kinda interesting that they're heroic right now.

"I've literally never heard this complaint until right this second. I've seen tons of criticism of the villains being bland, cartoonish, or unmemorable, but I've never seen anyone accuse them of being afraid to use actual comic book villains."
My bad. It comes from the Nostalgia Critic, I kinda assumed it was said by more people, since there are so many complain about villains being bad in these movies.
Let's see here, they use an actual comic book villain in every single movie, right, no matter if they're disappointing and bland.
Yeah, let's talk about that, shall we?
- Iron Monger: doesn't use the armor until the very end and is never actually referred as Iron Monger in the movie. For the rest of the movie, he is just a standard businessman villain.
- Justin Hammer: technically more a realistic villain than a supervillain, even though he was in the comic.
- Whiplash: barely appears in costume in the movie, never is referred as Whiplash, and is essentially made just Iron Man with whips during the finale.
- Loki: ... yeah, no complain on that one, but then again he is friggin' Loki.
- Red Skull: no real complain about him, aside from the fact he was never used again.
- Thanos: still not doing shit
- The Mandarin: ... Do I REALLY need to get over this again?—'
- Malekith: Technically comic book villain, but was reduced to a generic fantasy Evil Overlord.
- Batroc the Leaper: made a realistic mercenary with no costume.
- Winter Soldier: technically done well, but made the henchman of a realistic villain and turns good by the end.
- Ronan: turned into a generic Evil Overlord.
- Ultron: .... personal criticism aside, yeah, I guess he was made a comic book villain.
- Yellowjacket: Technically not a villain the comic, and spends most of the movie without the suit being a corporate executive villain.
Yeah, they use a lot of comic book villains, but a lot of them tend to have a reduced role, or have what makes them supervillains largely removed so they can be more realistic. But yeah, looking back I can see I exagerated a bit.
Script for gotg vol 2 done.
I really hope Mantis isn't the only new woman on the team but I'm afraid of what they would do to Phyla and Heather.

I mean in fairness most of the heroes also spend loads of time out of costume? No one's "on" 100% of the time.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

"Oh no someone using my MO has been infiltrating top secret facilities, stealing informations, and killing people. I have to go rogue from the agency to clear my name because they'll think it was me."
Forever liveblogging the Avengers"Actually I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt and work with you on this."
"I'm sorry Steve, THIS IS SOMETHING I HAVE TO DO MYSELF"
"Damnit, the magic words."
