Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Nothing has been revealed thus far aside from the fact they are planning to release 3 movies in 2020.
Plus at this stage any plans they do have are extremely fluid. They probably announced a little too far in advance with Phase 3 as is, given how much the second half of Phase 3 has been rearranged since it's initial announcement.
Gotcha.
The conversation started at the decision to split Infinity War into two films so I thought you meant that as an alternative to the film-splitting that studios often do; leaving it as a single film that's just the length of two to three films because that's how long it has to be.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.On Characters? So far the one we saw at the end of Age of Ultron. On Movies? We start with Civil War (and I am still convinced that it will affect the whole phase, especially since the Russo brothers are now babbling about serial story telling), get our first taste of Dr. Strange, move forward to I am Groot Spider man movie and Thor Ragcnarok in 2017. Black Panther starts 2018 followed by OMG Infinity war is there!!!! and Ant-men and the Wasp. Captain Marvel only makes her appearance in 2019 and supposedly she will be introduced in the movie and not beforehand but I guess there is a chance that she will be in Infinity war part 2. The Phase concludes with the inhumans. Than Phase 4 starts in 2020 with three unnamed movies, but considering the nature of the contract between Marvel and Sony, it is a safe bet that at least one of them will be a spider-man movie.

The Russo Brothers would love to direct a Black Widow movie.
Perhaps after Infinity War Part II, we can get a Black Widow trilogy taking the place of the Captain America movies?
Clark Gregg, Robert Downey Jr., and Scarlett Johannsen herself have all called out for a Black Widow movie. The Russo brothers are now saying that they want to direct it? Marvel's best set of directors? The people who made Winter Soldier, frequently hailed as a film that went above and beyond even by MCU standards?
Come on, Marvel. Make the right choice here. Everybody wants it.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.The big question is does Scarjo even want to? Right now, the deal works in her favor. She's the highest paid woman in the MCU and I think the second highest paid overall regardless of gender. That means she gets paid a boat load of money to show up in team-ups or other people's films while still having the free time to actually pursue other acting opportunities.
Yes, she does
. She has for a long time. "The deal works in her favor" is just another example of the twisted logic people use to justify its absence.
She's been unfairly snubbed for years and people keep trying to come up with one reason after another for why that's the way it should be and no foul play has been committed.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.If Black Widow can have her own comic book titles, she certainly can have her own movie, too. And yes, once phase 3 is over, Marvel is really running out of excuses to not make one, especially now that Perlmutter is out of the picture.
Sca Jo never revealed what kind of contract she has with Marvel. One thing for sure, she is currently the only one of their stars who is able to draw audience into the theatres on her name alone.
And if they also get the writing team for the Captain America franchise, I wouldn't be worried at all about them delivering a great movie.

I honestly don't expect w fourth film to Thor, Iron Man or Cap in phase four, I Think MARVEL are weary of characters outstaying their welcome.
So I imagine there will be new properties to fill the political thriller, war film, fantasy, sifi, buddy cop genres. (or other franchises will mold to fill those voids)
I could easily see Black Panther being the thematic successor to Captain America, and Captain Marvel giving us the war movies. I would love a Vision trilogy which is pure sifi.
Filling the fantasy void is hard; I struggle to think of MARVEL I Ps which could fill it, unless you let Scarlet Witch actually discover magic (I would love for her to get a trilogy)
I also want Sam and Rhodey to have trilogies and think they deserve them.
It must be hell juggling these characters and trying to introduce new ones to replace them.
Ci-vil War! Ci-vil War!
Gotta do a chant. Can't wait.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectTo the risk of shocking some people here... I genuinely am not convinced Black Widow is movie star material. Not because she is a woman, mind you, but because she is... well, kinda the plainest of all the Avengers. I mean seriously, even Hawkeye at least has his archery gimmick. She is just a very good spy with guns, and the political/spy thriller thing has already been done with not only Captain America 2, but also Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter. I don't really see what her movie would have of unique, and personally I wouldn't be thrilled to see one about her. I am all for good female superhero movies, but to me Black Widow isn't the right candidate for that.

Nope.
Besides, phase 3 hasn't even begun yet.
