Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

From what I've read it seems like Lee's sins are more akin to inaction and refusal to redirect credit where it's due, than active fraud as some have accused him of. As far as I'm aware there haven't been cases of him trying to take credit for the creation of things he wasn't actually involved in, like Namor who was Bill Everett, or Captain America who he wrote for but was Joe Simon's baby.

One instance like that is when the X-Men movies came out, he took a lot of credit for Magneto and talked about how he thought it was important to have a more human, relatable villain who was mad about something tangible like racism. While he did create Magneto, Lee's Magneto was a generic tyrant, and all the stuff about him being a Well-Intentioned Extremist who was mad about racism was added by later writers.

Pretty much. Stan was quick to credit other people in the comics (he even changed the FF's credits so that it showed him and Kirby as co-writers), but Lee was also wary of doing anything to jeopardize his job. Which included asking for more money for Kirby or a better contract or any of the creator's having any ownership in the characters they created.
This might have stemmed from the fact that when he was the head of Timely Comics, he was basically forced to fire pretty much the entire staff, writers and artists. He was later able to rehire them, but that probably stuck with him.

Some interesting character stuff from the Russo brothers
.
So, my 68 year old mother wants a Black Widow movie like yesterday. Everything she's seen of Natasha in the MCU has made Mom desperate to know more about her. She also says she can easily see spin-offs for Barton and Sam. Which I agree would be awesome.
That led to a discussion about the industry's ('cause it's not just Marvel) general failure to market their female heroes/protagonists and potential reasons for it, and she just shook her head and said "They're making a big mistake." Bless you, Mom.
Also curse you, for making me want a Falcon movie. Because really; what are the odds Marvel would give us Black Panther and Falcon (each in their own movies)?
Well, I have been enjoying Sam's stint as Captain America in Al Ewing's Mighty Avengers and Nick Spencer's Captain America: Sam Wilson.
But those deal a lot with Sam as Cap, which a Falcon movie wouldn't be doing (plus Mighty Avengers is a team book, with ample focus on Luke Cage, Monica Rambeau, Blue Marvel, White Tiger, Power Man, etc., but nonetheless).
Oh God! Natural light! In today's busy world, 5 to 9 consecutive hours of uninterrupted free time (not counting all the pauses to get snacks, go to the restroom, chat about what happened, etc.) is really hard to come by. There's a reason TV shows are split into episodes and video games have saves.
And that's just at home. A theatrical release of a 5 to 9 hour film would be a disaster in today's society. Ain't nobody got time for that.
He's Marvel's Queen of England. He's really only there anymore to smile and look pretty, but nobody minds because everyone loves him.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.

He used the alliterative name model because he wanted the names to be easier to remember.
So.... Irony.
