Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Is this count of 67 characters including the Netflix heroes?

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?

I don't think it's a literal 67 but it depends. I could see them at least getting a cameo.

There will probably be cameos from at least some of the love interests or family members. Scott saying goodbye to his daughter before he goes off into space, and so on.

Assuming he lives that long.

...How horribly tragic would it be if he died in-between Infinity Wars?

DON'T JINX IT. We lost Bowie and Lemmy already, don't let Stan be next.

They're recording both movies back-to-back and staggering the release aren't they?

Probably. Studios do that to avoid the fatigue that comes from watching what is effectively one 5 to 9 hour film, and the inevitable "shit's too long!" negativity that follows.

I wish we could make a comeback to longer films. If you're going to go watch a movie, chances are you've already got a sizeable hole in your schedule to begin with. People tend to bring up Return of the King as a counterpoint, but again that movie wasn't actually much longer than the other two, and its real problem was the pacing of the various ends.

When your film has a potential 67 characters splitting it into two parts sounds like a smart idea.

That's 33.5 characters for each film!

The .5 is probably Cosmo.

Man, they really did score a great director. Creed is getting great reviews (and was a hit).
