Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Despite Gunn's claims to the contrary
the Russos do seem to basically confirm the Guardians will be in Infinity War. Obvious news is obvious.
And they talk a bit about the fallout of Civil War
.
Joe Russo added, “For us, we really are firm believers in stakes. We like movies with high highs and low lows and we just feel like you get a more well-rounded experience in that type of film. Now that we’re engaged in serialized storytelling, it starts with Winter Soldier and ends with the Infinity War movies. We feel it's very important that those four films, Civil War, and both Infinity War movies, have a very profound effect on the audience. I think a lot of shocking things are going to happen, which is really interesting because you haven't had this kind of... maybe other than Harry Potter, I guess you can count the Bond series… but the kind of investment over a period of time with this many characters behaving in a universe. I think our job is to send you on a very profound experience between now and 2019 and it starts with Civil War. I don't know if people will be prepared for what this movie is going to include.”
And there is one other surprising detail:
Anthony Russo replied, "Certainly Black Panther, who we introduce. Similarly there, introducing a character gives you a great opportunity to take them on a ride, you know?"
"Vision goes on a journey, as well," added Joe Russo.
I was not expecting anything very relevant to the Vision in this movie.
I figured there'd be some kind of plot for him. Thanos has to pretty much rip out his brain in order to finish stage one, but since he's likely going to still be among the ranks fighting when everything comes to a head there's probably going to be some kind of self-improvement arc somewhere in there.

...vision quest?
My hopes for this film is that the new avengers feel like a cohesive team, and not a shadow of the previous roster, for Scarlet Witch and Vision to become more established, for Black Panther to kick ass, and for the possibility of Zero starting a super villain team left open. And finally for the Skovian Accords to enrich the setting, not bog it down like the super reg act did in the comics.
What's a good villain (or small team of villains) they could fight in the beginning who would make a cool fight but wouldn't need much plot significance? Maybe the Maggia, if Agent Carter doesn't have them be totally wiped out in the 50's.
Mobsters, even supermobsters, tend to play roles like that in superhero stories.
On the other hand, if they ultimately tie into Zemo's scheme the same way Batroc did to the plot of Winter Soldier, we could see them hinted to join the Masters of Evil in a later film (if it's a small group, we could see the most competent member be approached).
It'd also be cool if they used that opportunity to have enemies from the tie-in stuff cameo without needing setup. Absorbing Man, Blizzard, etc.

The best thing is that Ao S even managed to add the chained iron ball without it looking ridiculous.
Hopefully they bring the character back at one point...him and blizzard.
And now I'm imagining one of the guys who had a hand in the Amazing Spider-Man movies head desking himself out of pure frustration because Marvel (inevitably) managed to do a "realistic Spider-Man" better than Sony did.

It is presumably the former since they made a big deal of saying Marvel won't let them show it to the public yet.
If it were just a Spider-Man pattern I don't think it'd be a big deal. I think everyone assumes yes, he will be wearing a red costume with a spider symbol on it.
