Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Hmm, I wonder how this personality merging can play a role in Infinity War.

I would love to see Green Scar, or hints of him, in the MCU.

Mhm... now that I think about it, has there ever BEEN an arc about Ragnarok happening in the comic? I mean, foreshadowing or characters FROM Ragnarok, yeah, I know they did that, but Ragnarok actually happening, did they ever do that?

Yes, the final arc of Thor during Avengers Disassembled was about Ragnarok happening. Loki gets the mold used to make Mjolnir and convinces Surtur to make a bunch of Evil Knockoffs for him, and all hell breaks loose.

I also believe there was one back in the 60s or 70s. I chiefly remember it due Volstagg becoming thin to the point of becoming a walking skeleton.

In addition, in the final arc of Loki: Agent of Asgard, Old!Loki decided to kill Baldur and release the serpent when the final incursion started.

There was also Walter Simonson's run, though he went about it as Thor stopping Ragnarok from happening (stopping Surtur, destroying the Ship of Dead Men's Nails in Hel, etc).

Oh, so that's why there isn't a clear arc known about the topic: they did several^^' makes more sense.

Calling it: Thor Ragnarok will be a stealth Planet Hulk on the side. And that's awesome.

Someone on the WMG page had a neat idea about Quicksilver having a cameo in Valhalla.

Hmm. I'd rather that Thor: Ragnarok just be a Thor and Hulk buddy team-up movie.

Why was Taskmaster with Fox?

He's not connected to the Fantastic Four or the X Men.

[up]He somewhat connected to Deadpool, which apparently meant he was an X-Men character. That seems odd but I guess it doesn't matter anymore.

I kinda doubt his rights were ever at Fox. Heroic Hollywood has a history of pulling stuff out of their asses.
