Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Or he does and we just don't know it yet. Because the movie hasn't come out yet.

@Eagal read more of the interviews. BP has stakes in that fight and isn't there for the same reasons that Stark and his team are there.

He helped draft the law.

Look man, I know it looks bad with Wanda and Vision fighting right now, it's one of those things every couple has to go through in their life, but once it's all over it's a guarantee that the relationship will be stronger for it.

I don't think anyone has even said they're a couple yet in Civil War.

What's an African king doing helping the United States government draft United States laws...

It's not United States law, it's global. That's part of the whole point, other nations get fed up with the Avengers intervening in business on their soil.

Also, presumably he wants the Winter Soldier that cap is protecting and doesn't really care about the laws being drafted.

Do we know if Wakanda is necessarily involved in the drafting of the Sokovia Accords? I figured T'Challa was seeking vigilante for what happened in Age of Ultron.

[up]I love that this thread made that joke.

We should keep it running.

Also, I imagine that after having a ton of his Vibranium stoln that was then used to make a murderbot that nearly dropped a city on the planet T'Challa was like "Okay, I see how it is? You want us to ocme out of hiding? Fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine! We'll see how you like us out in the open when we're kicking every one of your heroes's collective asses AND GIVE ME BACK MY VIBRANIUM!"

No wait, that went in the wrong direction, I was trying to use this line of thinking ot justify why he's helping with the Sokovia Accords.

[up][up][up][up]EW says T'Challa helped draft the law so that would imply Wakanda is as well.

[up][up]The Avengers are in posession of a robot made out of a lot of illegally exported vibranium. A super duper space rock robot.

The Avengers have a super weapon built out of Wakanda's valuable national resource that can point its shiny forehead at Wakanda at any time. If that isn't enough for him to start hostilities I don't know what is.

[up][up]Oh I see.

Well this is interesting. Can we put that down as a Shrug of God then? Seems legit enough, wish I could find a full cut of the interview.

Well, I mean T'Challa's version of the Armor Wars.

Going around the world beating people up and reacquiring vibranium.

[up][up][up]All things considered it's not surprising he'd get involved when one of the two vibrainum killbots is still running loose.

[up][up][up] I think so. It's a diplomatic answer since something definitive either way would probably be controversial.

According to Ant-Man's Viral Marketing people are already selling bits of Ultron's drones and the vibranium gravity machine on the black market so that might also be part of Black Panther's involvement.

Hey, only Ultron Prime was made out of Vibranium! The rest of the Ultron bots were made from regular metals.

Yeah, how else would Hawkeye and Widow fight them otherwise? If they were all made of Vibranium they would've been completely ineffective.

That, and I doubt there was even enough vibranium to stretch out into all the Ultron-bots in the beginning.

Similar to Ultron Unlimited in that regard

I personally still don't get how Ultron's final body was that easy to break despite being made of vibranium.

It wasn't completely made of vibranium.
