Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Even though rich doesn't mean evil, it does make it difficult to empathize with the poor.
Like, it would be pretty awkward to be sitting around a table commiserating over money woes with Luke Cage, Peter Parker, Sam Alexander...and Tony Stark.
- LUKE: Our rent was late this week, but some of the money from our side projects came in, so that's good.
- PETER: Glad to hear that. Man, I don't even know how I'm going to pay the cable bill. I need some action fast, there's only so long Jonah's going to buy pictures that are just Spider-Man swinging through town.
- SAM: My dad's home, so my mom's no longer being financially crushed. That's good, at least. Did you guys see that bulletin board, though?
- PETER: Those people trying to bulldoze our homes to build a mall? Yeah, I saw that.
- LUKE: They think they can just drive people out of their homes because they have a lot of money to throw around.
- SAM: What are we going to do?
- PETER: We'll do something. I don't know what, but they can't just push people around like this.
- TONY: I hear you guys, it's rough out there. I had to sell my summer condo last year. Oh, crap, gotta run, there's a car I want to buy. Can you believe this thing's going for only $90k? That's a steal! Anyways, see you guys next meeting. I'm thinking something upscale. There's a little place a few blocks away where you can get a fantastic champagne for only $29.99. It's ritzy, though, so you'll have to dress up. Suit and tie, that sort of thing.
When you're the rich guy in a group of povertous characters, there's an elephant in the room: the fact that countless problems could be solved if you just shared some of the wealth. It's hard to be a billionare in the slums without being obnoxious.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I dunno. Danny is a super-billionaire but he didn't come into that fortune until after spending time as an orphan in Tibet, right? So even if he's wealthy now he at least has been poor and knows what it's like, so I can't imagine he'd be as oblivious as the Tony Stark in your example.
Admittedly my Iron Fistology is not very sharp so for all I know he was living the life of Riley even in Tibet, but someone better versed in the character could correct me.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Yeah, at around the age Danny was orphaned he wouldn't have cared that much if he was rich and spent s good portion of his life raised by.... Eh, who knows what the ancient immortal Chinese martial artists were living like but it most certainly wasn't extravagant.
In things I've read where Danny showed up (so... Some trades of New Avengers) he is not even close in personality to, say, Tony or Bruce. I bet he came back to New York having no idea what all that money was even for.
And after reading that round table it just reminded me of what I've read or watched with Tony in it and his response tends to be "oh? Okay *buys everything* congrats guys, you now own all this stuff!"
The Blog The ArtMovie Tony is generally fairly generous with his money as well. He did go and turn Harley's workshop into a Wonka-esque wonderland of tech after Iron Man 3, and the whole Iron Man concept is about making expensive suits with the intent of keeping the peace, after all.
He just wants everyone to know it's him doing it.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I picture that scene in The Count Of Monte Cristo where Edmond Dantes casually sleeps on the floor.........in the lavish bedroom of his own personal mansion. It'd be pretty interesting see Rand have that kind of funny relationship with his own luxuries.

He's super-generous with his money, I was just making a point about the writing. Writers who write poor characters like to write poor problems into them, and those problems are hard to sell when your hero's best buddy owns a Fortune 500 company.
It can make for some hilarity like that time Hawkeye was struggling to set up his VCR and Tony was offering to just buy him a brand new entertainment system, but it can also be a drama killer.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.The Iron Man armors alone probably cost so much to maintain that I doubt Tony has any real concept of money anymore. Once you can afford to maintain a personal army of high tech battle suits you're well above Fiction 500 levels.
Cate Blanchett is in talks for Thor 3
. She's reportedly in talks for Valkyrie or Enchantress.
I especially like the idea of Brunnhilde. She'd make a good Enchantress too though she would probably have to go through some serious conceptual changes to avoid bad romance or Femme Fatale cliches.

I just hope this Thor 3 thing will spend most of the time on Asguard this time. If they try to include part on Earth so they can have Jane Foster &Co like they did in the Dark World, I am not sure that'll work. I mean, I did like some parts of Thor 2, but.... seriously, "the Dark World" was in the friggin' title, and they probably didn't spend more than a quarter of the movie on it!
Supposedly Civil War would have some nods to Ragnarok in it. Maybe some exposition scientist talks about weird dimensional energies near Planet X in a Big-Lipped Alligator Moment, I don't know.
If the Time Stone shows up in Thor: Ragnorok, I could see a situation where Asgard is destroyed in the first five minutes of the movie and then, perhaps after a brief stop on Earth, the bulk of the movie is set on the world the Hulk ended up on. The 3rd act would then be using the time stone to undo the destruction of Asgard, ultimately bringing it to Earth in order to save it from total destruction.
Hoo boy, I can see the next wave of Sharon bashing coming on. Probably some bashing from the Black Widow fans too although if they make her job too hard it's perfectly understandable.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.
