Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Ugh, that's bad.
I mean.
Garrett Morris and Matthew Moy aren't to blame for Two Broke Girls badness.
I dunno how comfortable I feel blaming Kat Dennings, either.
I don't think she signed up for it eager to promote racial stereotypes any more than her costars did.
I'd blame Michael Patrick King. He's the guy in charge, after all.
And also CBS for giving it the greenlight.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. The nice thing about fusing her with Selvig is that it takes care of at least part of this, via giving Jane the scene of Selvig bonding with Thor over drinks, Thor drinking him under the table, and the respectful "We drank, we fought, he made his ancestors proud!" proclamation that it resulted from.
The "Thor and Selvig bond over drinks" scene would instead be Thor and Jane bonding over drinks and getting to know each other. Imagine, instead of piling Selvig into the trailer and then heading out to discuss plot, it's Jane waking up with a morning-after hangover, asking Thor what happened, Thor telling her, "We drank, we fought, you made your ancestors proud," and then they move on to discussing plot.

Ooh, I like that.
That being said, thinking about it, it probably wouldn't work as well to have Jane!Selvig as the person controlled by Loki in AOU. Both because of the added It's Personal aspect for Thor but also because it kind of throws off the character interactions in Dark World.
So I'm not sure then about who if either of them would be in Avengers. But it would seem like a good idea to either eliminate or decrease Selvig's role and give Jane (some of) those scenes.

Some talk about the new characters in Civil War
. It's said in contrast to Black Panther, Spider-Man and Ant-Man enter the story later and have more of a comic relief slant because they have less investment in the actual conflict.

I'm sorry, I just...I just really hate Michael Patrick King.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies. The "Selvig warns off Thor" scene is another one I particularly hate because how dare he! Jane is a grown up woman and Selvig isn't even her father.
Yes, the plot in The Avengers would have need some adjustments if Loki had kidnapped Jane instead of Selvig, but on the plus side, it would have made the confrontation spicier, there wouldn't have been the need for an awkward "why didn't you call me when you were on earth" conversation and even the slap (I usually hate it when they show woman slapping men with a few exceptions) would feel less abusive, because Jane would have had ample reason to do so if Loki had mind controlled her at one point.
This makes me imagine a drunken Jane Foster punching Thor in the face and it is amazing. I shall cherish it always.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersRE Civil War, don't know if anything like this will happen but since knowing that Ant-Man was in the film, I imagine a scene where Tony has a sort of Just Between You and Me moment where he thinks he's captured Steve or one of his allies, and then they reveal that Scott is there in the room too.
Also/additionally, was thinking as a take off on the infamous scene of Eric O'Grady being stored in Black Widow's cleavage, maybe have him hide in Sam's pants or something like that.
No offense meant but that reminds me of this line in Nick Spencer's Ant Man how Scott snarks about villains always declaring/threatening that they will crush him like a bug even though his powers prevent that from happening.

Technically a rhino > spider.
But that never really seems to matter.
Although I am reminded of the time that Black Widow went off to beat up Spider-Man to prove that she was the better spider themed hero.
He was nonplussed.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersSpider-Man gets that too. I recall him griping once about how every supervillain seems to think they're so clever for coming up with, "Squash the bug!"
Until recently, it was really only a world with mutants in the X-titles or crossovers with the X-titles. The X-Men kind of had their own corner of the universe - one that frequently conflicted with the way other titles portrayed the universe.

But I thought Iron Fist was canceled.
Good to hear news though. Wonder what the showrunner's idea was.
I will say that besides the supernatural power element, the premise does sound quite a bit like Arrow (although I guess Rich Idiot With No Day Job characters tend to fit into a similar mold).
