Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

    Original post
Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

So.

Is Natasha going to use that holographic mask again?

Well technically the blueprints of the mask were probably released on the internet but you still have to be ridiculously good at engineering to make one, I'd think.

The guy who invented the masks being dead doesn't mean there isn't any more, or more can't be made. The reason he was introduced was because of the nature of the problem involving the mask, and the personalities of the people seeking him. Of course they're going to go to the inventor, rather than some other SHIELD engineer that worked on it.

Maybe that mask tech will find its way into a Spider-man film....wink

[up]In an episode of AOS a HYDRA agent met the doctor who created the mask and then killed him at the end of the episode.

The mask is apparently not that easy to use...you need the original person to create it, for starters.

No, the mask is easy to use — all you need is to get a face print and a voice print — but the mask Kara was using malfunctioned. The mask was fused to her face and part of it showed a burn on her skin, while the other part showed the last face it wore (May's face).

Once the mask's creator was able to fix it, the mask was fully functional again (aside from the voice box).

[up]What I meant is that you can't simply do a mask in five minutes whenever you want. It requires some planning.

It's both. Like, it's sad how much he wants that recognition, fame, and acceptance, but also that hammer in his hand felt a mite ridiculous.

Also, those moments where Frigga's actress just wasn't there? Priceless.

Ooh.

You know, how come The Amazing Spider-Man didn't have HIM as the villain anyway?

Evidently when it comes to villains, Sony thinks small (go for big recognizable guys, not obscure guys who can play mind games), Marvel thinks big (take the obscure guys and make them so that they're just as legit as the recognizable bad guys). evil grin

Of course, this is an educated guess, so don't quote me.

But man, Sony's treatment of Spidey was getting weird, right?
